Keeping Mike McCarthy at this point is cruel

Keep in mind that the entire league is seeing the same thing we see. Jerry hung MM out to dry. So I think he's being evaluated this season not on wins and/or losses per se but on how he handles adversity.

He shouldn’t have been brought back after the worst playoff loss in Cowboys history. Teams don’t recover from that. It was doomed last off-season. Do the humane thing Jerry. Fire him.
Our GM’s schedule for the next two weeks is very hectic with a lot of business deals pending for exciting events at the stadium so I’m not sure he has time to scapegoat the latest chump hc. It might have to wait until December. What self respecting hc would coach in Dallas?

I have no problem watching Mike ruin his career opportunities to HC again. He’s been here for 5 years; Yes I agree Jones screwed him this season, but Mike has every bit to do with individual player growth.

I don’t get the soft spot some have for MM. He played a hand in this too. Not only from a HC perspective but also I don’t recall him taking Jerry to task over not making any moves. He had the forum to put pressure on Jerry and CHOSE to be a yes man.

But then the blame would focus directly on Jerry. Jerry needs Mike right where he is.
Fact. MM is the fall guy. But lets be real, nobody dares ask our octagenarian GM the hard questions. This team had no chance from day 1. Many of us called it last April. The offseason saw us replace proven players with lesser players or unproven players. Not a single position on the team was upgraded. The season had disaster written all over it. This was a 6-7 win team even with Dak and everyone else healthy.

I can’t believe I’m actually saying this but I feel sorry for Mike McCarthy. This is the most putrid team we’ve seen since the Campo years and those teams overachieved winning 5 games.

I’m not defending McCarthy’s coaching. It hasn’t been good to say the least. But let’s be honest - Big Mac was actually handed a one legged roster with one arm tied behind his back by this 82 year old arrogant fool in charge of this mess. This team is awful.

Honestly, 31 other owners would have fired McCarthy after that packers loss last January. That’s what should have happened. Now Jerry lets McCarthy twist in the wind weekly with this historically bad roster. If Jerry Jones had one ounce of mercy in his soul, he would release McCarthy tomorrow.

It’s the humane thing to do.
Jerry and his Cowboys organization have hit bottom as far as the football operation goes. To complete three consecutive 12-5 season with high playoff hopes and then free fall to this embarrassing display of bottom feeder football is much more indictive of the incompetence of the front office than anything else.

With the way Jones treated the coaching staff this season, and in years past, who would really want to put their career and reputation on the line to work for this clown show? I see a lot of coveted names thrown around to replace McCarthy, but who would have thought last year the Commanders was a better coaching gig than the Cowboys?

I see some lean years ahead.

Honestly, Bob, I'm seriously thinking. Jerry wants as many losses as possible for his new head coach to draft with.
5 wins or less, and a top 10 pick is easily within our grasp.
So he's going to let Mike continue to call 1 yd out routes. Zimmers star players freelancing all over the place.

I think he’s doing as good as he possibly can with what GM gave him to work with.
That doesn't explain the bad play calling at times, 5 year complete failure to accomplish what he was hired for, the horrible time clock management, always wanting the ball first when we win the coin toss........

Nah. Mike played a big role in this by being the OC and calling anemic plays... He’s gotta suffer like the rest of us this season.
That is a good point. Mm doesn't seem to care what plays are called when and who.

I've said this all year, not as eloquently or long winded as you, but in a nutshell....lameduck HCs don't work....

McCarthy was never taking this team anywhere. He was the perfect yes man that Jerry wanted. I don’t feel sorry for him, he’s the one who decided to work for Jerry Jones knowing damn well what he was getting into. Plus at least he gets paid to watch this crap while we don’t.

Agreed. But I don’t think it was loyalty. I actually think Jerry is just that cheap. He didn’t want to fire Big Mac and have to pay him and the staff for their last year on their contract.

Btw, other coaches in this league pay attention to how their fellow coaches get treated. At this point firing McCarthy would actually be the merciful thing to do. Making him twist in the wind for a half a year’s contract makes Jerry look like the cheap jerk he is.
Yes, they do. And the fact you think that other coaches think that firing him would be the better route is just, and I'm sorry, idiotic. Not a single one of them wants to be fired. It's direspectful and embarassing. If Mike really hated it, he could quit. Jerry isn't holding on to him because he is cheap. He is just being realistic. Who is going to replace him? And why replace him? Does this team become a contender with someone else at the helm? Do you think he has lost the team? Bottom line, he hasn't been replaced because there is just no reason to at this point. If you were going to replace him, the time to do it was over this past off-season.

I feel sorry for him too. Honestly, I don't think he's anywhere near as bad of a coach as people make him our to be. Unfortunately, he's hamstrung by probably the worst front office in the NFL. I hope he goes to a team like the Bears and wins them a Super Bowl. He deserves one for how badly the Cowboys front office has treated him. As for now, I think they really should just let him go on his way. It's not fun for anyone, and I don't think he's enjoying any minute of this. I think this is going to be a sacking that he is going to enjoy just so he can be on the first flight out to his next destination.

Mike is a Stephen hire folks. Jerry would have stayed with JG. Don’t forget that.

Jerry is a senile old man that should not be the face of anything anymore. It’s time for the younger Jones clan to take over.

Switzer wasn't fired, he resigned after the 1997 season
Yes, he "agreed to resign".

That is the more respectful and diplomatic interpretation.

However, to go 6-10 after winning three of the previous five Super Bowls?

Do you think there was any chance within the realm of Hades that Switzer could stay if he wanted? Please........

I think Big Mac's time here has run its course, but I don’t hold this season against him. He was handed a very weak roster and a last-minute, overpaid QB. Honestly, I’m not sure anyone could have coached their way out of this mess.

It feels like he’s mentally checked out too. Last night’s early fake punt said a lot to me. It seemed like a “Yeah, do whatever” moment. Maybe he even wants to get fired, but Jerry is too cheap to even make that happen.
What a crap season. Just absolute crap. Thanks Jones' boys!!

Jerry is going to put MM through what he went through last january in one of the most embarrassing losses in Cowboy history. Mike is gonna be the fall guy for this mess and Jerry wouldn't have it any other way.
