Darren Woodson was an amazing free safety. It really is a shame he couldn't have stayed healthy and played this year because in that defense he probably would've helped quite a bit.

Let's face it, Roy is not good at coverage and I don't think he ever will be. As far as Keith Davis is concerned, I honestly don't know. I know he hits hard but that's really about it, as you just don't hear him talked about a whole lot during games except for his big hits every once in awhile. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Its good that no one mentions him because it means that he isn't getting beat on a regular basis, and when you think of all the long bombs we've given up this year, most of them have been with Roy as the safety in coverage. But then again, him not being talked about might also mean that he isn't making plays.

I guess what I'm getting down to is due to the fact that Roy isn't great at coverage, we need our free safety to be good in coverage. Davis is an excellent special teams player and is fiesty and will lay down a hit when its needed, but I don't know if he is what we need.

What is his future in Dallas as far as you can tell?

I think he is the backup to RW after this season and a FS will be drafted or picked up in FA and Beriault will be the backup at FS.

I think you have to give him a little time. This is the first year he started. Last year he was the ST guru. Good ole #28 took a little time to get comfortable. I think he will be fine. I like that he is aggressive.

Keith Davis has a place on this team whether it be starting FS or Special Teams exclusively, but the guy simply does not suck by any means

He's a great hitter, and gets in your face and let's you know you better stay away from him and I like that

Woodson was always the Strong Safety, and Teague, Marion, Washington all played FS, and when Williams got there he played FS, but we had two SS back there when Woodson was still here. But Woodson was the SS not the FS.
And his covering ability was about the same as Roy's, both of them were/are not good covering Safeties.

What part of the Ron Dayne whiff did you especially like?

A safety who doesn't tackle well has no future.

I liked the part where you were pissed off

yeah, that was my favorite part. knowing you were in agony. I enjoyed that

As a special teamer, absolutely, without question.

Keith Davis will always have a place on the team due to his special teams alone.

Doesn't tackle well?

Insert twilightzone music here. lol

Davis is one of the better Special team players in the NFL....
He did not have a good defensive year , but as long as he plays ST's as good as he dose then I say yeas he has a spot.

K.D 's defensive stats.
45 total tackles 3 passed defensed 0 Ints 0 forced fumbles.. 0 sacks

not that impressive ....he is not tackling and not covering...

He has a future.

I have a gut feeling we dont address Free Safety in the Offseason.

I think Keith Davis is your Free Safety next year.

He has been out of position a few times but lately we have not been getting pressure on the Quarterback and Zimmy keeps playing the zones but it doesnt seem like the Safeties understand their assignments.

Never thought I would say it, but I am quite comfortable with Keith Davis back there.

We have 3 Pro Bowl caliber players, heck maybe even 4 if you add Glenn to the mix, im sure Davis can learn from them.

Umm, I'm really gonna have to disagree. Later in his career, Woody might not have been the best guy to line up one on one with a wideout, but in his earlier years he would come down and cover the slot reciever when teams went three wide. How many safeties do that now?

Actually Woodson was pretty good in coverage, if you recall in his younger years they used to isolate him on the slot man a lot. He was just a freak athlete who was lean big and fast.

Definately has a place. The guy is a special teams virtuoso. Anybody that is a good ST player and a half way good positional player will ALWAYS survive.

only as special teamer. If this guy is starting next year I am going to be so beyond pissed at Parcells.

I can somewhat agree that Roy is not that good in coverage, but just because he was a safety on the deep bombs, does NOT mean that was his responsibility. not that he hasnt given up some plays, but most of them were to Davis man or side. Because Davis is always trying to be up near the LOS and misses a ton of plays. He needs to be off the team, and replace him with a guy that realizes he needs to cover, and not another guy that wants to be mr bigplay linebacker/FS hit stick every guy I see guy at FS.

I think Keith Davis will be a special teams star, and a free safety with coverage skills will be found someplace. Then a backfield coach who can figure out the schemes will be added, because Todd Bowles doesn't seem to understand how to maximize his talent.

Man, im not so sure Parcells thinks Davis is holding this team hostage. I know Pile relieved him I think in the San Fran Game and maybe another game, but lately, Keith Davis has been in.

I think some of the things Zimmer is trying to do coverage-wise is a little too complicated and that is why you see players totally out of position. I noticed during the Miami Game on Thanksgiving 2 years ago when we went TOTALLY zone to help with Chambers, Williams, and and their TE, who's name escapes me.

I really think Keith Davis is the FS here. At least he will be given the opportunity to compete and I would not be surprised if he won out.
