Woodson was always the Strong Safety, and Teague, Marion, Washington all played FS, and when Williams got there he played FS, but we had two SS back there when Woodson was still here. But Woodson was the SS not the FS.
And his covering ability was about the same as Roy's, both of them were/are not good covering Safeties.

Uh, Woodson was an exceptional cover safety in his prime. He'd often cover the slot receiver....the same job that the Cowboys have now assigned to arguably their best corner (Newman).

Woodson's cover skills were superior to Roy's.

I have a gut feeling we dont address Free Safety in the Offseason.

I think Keith Davis is your Free Safety next year.

He has been out of position a few times but lately we have not been getting pressure on the Quarterback and Zimmy keeps playing the zones but it doesnt seem like the Safeties understand their assignments.

Never thought I would say it, but I am quite comfortable with Keith Davis back there.

We have 3 Pro Bowl caliber players, heck maybe even 4 if you add Glenn to the mix, im sure Davis can learn from them.

I somewhat agree with you here. FS hasn't held the team hostage as some like to claim. Is an upgrade needed? It'd be nice, but the team doesn't really value that position and upgrades at OLB, ILB and probably even NT would be more pressing in my book.

I am pretty confident that Davis will make the team on specials alone.

If someone is brought in, I'd expect a second tier vet free agent as opposed to a draft pick. I kind of think the team would like a vet to make the calls back there (and not ecstasy running Ty the CB).

I wouldn't be surprised to see Pile/Davis/Beriault battle for this position in camp. Maybe a FA like Hope from Pitt is the guy brought in.

Davis has a place with the team because of his ST play. Pile is serviceable at best in coverage, which is better than Davis, but Davis is better in ST play. Have Davis backup Roy next year and get a real FS. If they can do that and stay healthy, the safety and special teams play will be better next season.

No I am not knocking him for him being white, but if you watched the movie you would really know what I mean. If the kid turns out like John Lynch then great. But seriously the kid has played a few preseason games at SS and people are already talking about him being the next FS. Parcells has said many times that Davis has a knack for being around the ball and he is a great tackler who can really lay the wood. Everything fans are atributing to JB are the same qualities that KD has PROVEN he has. I think that people are hyping him up because he is white. Again I am not knocking his skills, but I think it is just like the movie because you haven't seen a FS that is white and good in a long time and people want him to be their savior. If the kid comes out and does it great, I am behind him 110% because he is a FOOTBALL player. But I think that he is hyped up more than needed. He hasn't proven anything yet. Good potential but he is another SS honestly and we have 2 good ones already. I just personally saw the satire in the movie and thought it really applied here.

It is pretty shocking to see how many people are touting Justin Beriault. What has ever done? I have not seen him do anything that makes me "beat my chest" and say...yeah...that's him...that's my guy for Free Safety next season.

I would much rather you guys get all gushy inside about a proven Vet or a very high valued Draftee.

I forget the other guys' name from 2004 everyone got excited about....somebody help me out....what was his name? He was suppose to be the next Bill Bates or something.

Edit:Yeah, the guys name was Tom Crowder. I cant remember who it was that was touting this guy, may not have been on this board but I know somebody was hyping this guy up like some are hyping up Beriault.

I don't give a damn what color he is, and of course he hasn't done anything, he hasn't been on the field.

I'm not white either, and I want to see what this guy has. What I saw in one of those games was, a guy that was in almost every play. Now a person like that I'd like to call a football player. Some guys just seem to know where to be at when the ball is near, and KD is not like that.

Roy has been like that in the past, but I've not seen it lately. You have to give this guy a chance to atleast see, if he's no good then move on.

That has been the problem with our safties including Roy Will this year. They bite hard on playaction and/or pump fakes and because none of them have Newman like speed to makeup for their mistake, they get toasted once they get faked out.

That bomb in the 1st Qtr was on Davis's side, but the Cowboys were in zone and none of the replays show what the secodary was doing, until of course he catches and they are all chasing him then.
