It is pretty shocking to see how many people are touting Justin Beriault. What has ever done? I have not seen him do anything that makes me "beat my chest" and say...yeah...that's him...that's my guy for Free Safety next season.

I would much rather you guys get all gushy inside about a proven Vet or a very high valued Draftee.

I forget the other guys' name from 2004 everyone got excited about....somebody help me out....what was his name? He was suppose to be the next Bill Bates or something.

Edit:Yeah, the guys name was Tom Crowder. I cant remember who it was that was touting this guy, may not have been on this board but I know somebody was hyping this guy up like some are hyping up Beriault.

He had a hell ofa preseason game where he was everywhere and laying some big hits. Showed some flashes of bigtime potential, its unfortunate he got put on IR I would have loved to at least give him a chance back there. He probably doesnt bite on every playaction and get burned deep like a Jackass every game like Keith Davis does.

No I am not knocking him for him being white, but if you watched the movie you would really know what I mean. If the kid turns out like John Lynch then great. But seriously the kid has played a few preseason games at SS and people are already talking about him being the next FS. Parcells has said many times that Davis has a knack for being around the ball and he is a great tackler who can really lay the wood. Everything fans are atributing to JB are the same qualities that KD has PROVEN he has. I think that people are hyping him up because he is white. Again I am not knocking his skills, but I think it is just like the movie because you haven't seen a FS that is white and good in a long time and people want him to be their savior. If the kid comes out and does it great, I am behind him 110% because he is a FOOTBALL player. But I think that he is hyped up more than needed. He hasn't proven anything yet. Good potential but he is another SS honestly and we have 2 good ones already. I just personally saw the satire in the movie and thought it really applied here.

I don't know that many are hyping him as the "next great safety", but there are many interested in his potential. He played at a small school. He had extraordinary combine numbers. He made several big plays in preseason. The Cowboys kept him on IR all year as opposed to just cutting him which leads me to believe they saw something in him.

He is raw. He has a lot to overcome, but he is an interesting prospect to say the least.

To dismiss him because he is white is just....silly. I don't care if the guy is green, if he can show some signs of playing ball, I'll root for him.

I don't think anyone is getting "gushy", but he did show enough in preseason to warrant a look. The team obviously thinks so as well.

People will overhype and underhype players like crazy around here. Beriault is what he is. A nice developmental type safety that could be something pretty good with work and some coaching.

He is much farther along than a guy like Crowder, but is still a work in progress. He is very similar to someone like Keith Davis a year ago.

Whaaaa

Translate please ;)

Translation: I love Ty Law and until Dallas signs him to play FS, I am going to bash FS play every chance I get.

Bigger fish to fry IMO. FS is, at the highest, third on the list of priorities. Probably fourth behind OL, LB, and WR.

That's about where'd I'd put it.

The safety play wasn't great this year, but it was a heck of a lot better then Dixon or Scott running around back there last year.

Furthermore Davis as improved as the season went along and we have another candidate in Beriault already on the roster. No need to burn a valuable pick IMO on FS.

I'd check the price tag on Corey Chavous though.

Beriault is a strong safety. Parcells said he saw him as a strong safety. Davis is also more of a strong safety. I think Davis stays on even if they get a true top notch FS. Davis will be a good back up to either safety position and can be valuable at special teams. There is no need to get rid of him just because they bring in someone better.

If we took a FS in the first round I guess I would not be too mad.

I am not sure I want ty up all that money on in the secondary like that.

Quite frankley, you need a OT and a QB alot more then a Safety. I think Keith is servicable.

Again...I remember Lynn Scott tatooing people 2 preseasons in a row.

Get excited about Landry out of LSU or Michael Huff out of Texas or a Free Agent that is proven.

I just dont understand fans getting raw raw over in-experienced players that hasnt done anything.

Beriault will pretty much be a rookie next year and HECK NO do I want a rookie back there when I think we can make a run at....

Davis is not a free safety by any stretch of the imagination. I've seen him burned for too often this year to think that he has a future at that position.

See, I dont like being forced to defend Davis but you guys have to realize.

Alot of times this season Zimmer kept calling Zone Coverages in the game, instead of being aggressive.

The Zones he called put the Cowboys in jeopardy alot this season. Zones that put guys like Santana Moss one on one with Davis and/or Roy Williams.

Advantage Offense.

Go take a look at the Miami Game on Thanksgiving in 2003. I keep pointing to that game because that was the first game that year where we went TOTALLY zone the whole time and it was sooooo clear that corners and safeties just really didnt understand how to play it and where they needed to be. Zimmer calls those types of Zones when A) He is very fearful of an offense Ala Chris Chambers, Rickey Williams, and Randy McMichael B) When we have a lead in the 4th Quarter late.

We are still getting burned on Zones to this day in Zimmer's zone schemes. More focus needs to be put on teaching these guys how to run there zone.

How do guys like Ricky Proehl get behind our Secondary on 2 separate occassions. The guy isnt exactly Randy Moss and the TD he scored in the 4th Quarter, we were in Zone Coverage, the Panthers 2 receiver on the left side ran crossing routes and totally confused the secondary.

I think it is time to look at the Teacher instead of the students...

Darren Woodson was an amazing free safety. It really is a shame he couldn't have stayed healthy and played this year because in that defense he probably would've helped quite a bit.

Let's face it, Roy is not good at coverage and I don't think he ever will be. As far as Keith Davis is concerned, I honestly don't know. I know he hits hard but that's really about it, as you just don't hear him talked about a whole lot during games except for his big hits every once in awhile. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Its good that no one mentions him because it means that he isn't getting beat on a regular basis, and when you think of all the long bombs we've given up this year, most of them have been with Roy as the safety in coverage. But then again, him not being talked about might also mean that he isn't making plays.

I guess what I'm getting down to is due to the fact that Roy isn't great at coverage, we need our free safety to be good in coverage. Davis is an excellent special teams player and is fiesty and will lay down a hit when its needed, but I don't know if he is what we need.

What is his future in Dallas as far as you can tell?

He's a SS backup. Keep him until Roy's replacement comes along.

just find it amusing how you can manage to carry your agenda into any thread

Any discussion involving a defensive player and defensive scheming is bound to eventually bring the Defensive Coordinator's name up...ya know the dude that calls the plays and sets the defensive tone?

I have a problem with his scheme and think the players on this defense are sound...you dont..
