Key rebuilding question: What is our identity?

Stop blaming the owner for everything. He's not nearly as involved as you think.

He's given himself the titles of President and General Manager-for-life. He has final say on every decision and he'll happily tell you that. He also has made his son VP and Director of Player Personnel-for-life.

He couldn't possibly be any more responsible.

Part of the obvious problem with this FO is clear- even with our answers here on this thread as fans- what are we? A power running team? A varied pass attack? Are we running a 4-3? A 3-4? 4-2-5?
We are a hyper-aggressive passing offense that wants to be varied on defense. Independent of how the season played out, you don't hire McCarthy and say, "Hey, let's run the ball 40 times a game and try to win 20-16." Ideally, it gets a lead to make opponents one-dimensional on offense and uses that to cause turnovers.

It isn't complicated. Like every other team in the league, when the game script gets away, they'll have moments where they struggle.

We built this team to be an offensive powerhouse with a defense that could keep teams scoring below what we could. There were some issues with this though. That being we weren't scoring many points against good teams with the game in reach. Also, the defense was beyond atrocious. I can give the D a bit of slack. It's a new system, several new players, and a messed up off-season to learn how to play together. That being said, there needs to be a lot of people cleared out of there this off-season and some fresh talent brought in, especially at Safety. If we can beef up the defense, and we can stay healthy on the line next year, I see good things whether with Dak or some one else.
I don’t blame the owner for everything. Just the results on the field. By his own admission He wants the credit for whenever they may be relevant again. Until that happens, he deserves the blame for why the on field results haven’t happened for 25 years. He’s in the HOF for his financial genius contributions to pro football. But he’s also the main reason we haven’t won anything in a qtr century. That’s not even debatable.

Apparently it is for the Jones FO.

Our ID has been "we're an offensive" team. We finally got to the point that with Dak, we could average 30+ points a game.

Our identity is Dak and being a passing powerhouse.

If your identity is one-sided you're not winning anything. It can't be "We're an offensive team, a passing powerhouse. We pray we can score 30+ every week and keep the erratic defense off the field."

The Cowboys five champions were two-sided, the Patriots and Steelers champions were two-sided, basically 90+% of champions fit that category. The 2000 Ravens were a rare exception.

But whatever we are it has to be consistent. If you keep changing who you are every few years then you're really not anything.

No it isn't lol. They built a team to do exactly that. That's what their signings were geared towards (McCoy, Smith Griffen) and how they tried to play.

There is absolutely no confusion in the type of team they are trying to build.

It's 2020 and the Chiefs are, by far, the best team in the NFL.

This is exactly what they do.

I will say it. Cee Dee Lamb was the wrong pick when your defense could not stop the Eagles offensive roster made of 2nd, 3rd team, and practice squad players.

That draft pick was classic Jerry Dumbo GM Jones decision making.
Though picking Lamb kept the Eagles from getting him which would have made stopping them even harder!

aggressive pass game with WRx3....and 2 impressive TEs in Jarwin and Schultz.
with Dak back...we should be able to put alot of pressure on the defense with our pass game.

multiple look defense that should generate pressure with Lawrence,Gregory,Smith and Anae.
with a full off-season...i like what this defense has to offer.
we're starting to see it now.

Add a 1st day DT and Saftey and we look really good to be honest.

Does a team need an identity. Winning creates an identity for fans and the media.
If you have a strong defense, you have a defensive identity, same goes for offense. You rarely see a team having both anymore. But yt they need t go hand in hand in a way.

I do not think a teams sets out and says, this is what we want our team to be other than winning. They just try to get the best 53 they can.
Emphasis has been strong offense here as the defense been neglected for years. Maybe that changes soon.

No one ever says, their team is down for ST's. LOL. Anyway, I do not really care other than an identity of playing well in all 3 phases and winning. Like the 90's teams. I don't think they had an identity of defense or offense. Maybe a bit more on offense as they were efficient, but they also complimented each other. Like Landry's teams.

A winning identity is what is needed. This team needs to learn how to win games, like that Eagles game, or the Steelers game, even the Washington game.
Yes. Think of the Seahawks who not that long ago were all about a Legion of Boom defense and a Beastmode running back. Now their whole team is on the shoulders of Wilson. Do people complain that they lost their identity? No, because they didn't stop winning.

RE: Jerry’s bragging about his attendance- Two words “TONE DEAF.”
Is he SERIOUSLY bragging about winning a competition where many of the others arent as much as allowed to participate??

Considering the sensitivity of the reason, this is a new low....and he ought to be publicly blasted for that.

Good point and you can say the same of the Steelers.

However, they did change to acquire those identities. The Cowboys haven't had an identity since Parcells and Romo actually changed that.

Yep, that game last night was just sad. That place would have been coming unglued the way that team responded.

Build the largest stadium and then brag about attendance. But then, shouldn't he? Packing the venue with those teams is an accomplishment.
