Romo played 10.5 games and put up some of the best passing numbers in the league. He ranked No. 1 in yards per attempt, No. 1 in average yards at catch (the length of the pass thrown), No. 1 in percentage of passes thrown more than 20 yards, No. 2 in TD percentage, No. 2 in completion percentage, No. 2 in third-down passer rating, No. 3 in overall first-down percentage and No. 5 in overall passer rating.

He still has to prove that he can do the same things over a longer period of time, but he absolutely played very well last season. It's not like he was getting the hype without doing anything.

His numbers against playoff teams were very average, despite having a great supporting cast and playing in the same offense for 4 years.

I don't really sense bitterness. I mean, we Cowboys fans love Romo, but to pretty much everyone else, he is the king of overhype. Or at least overexposure. He is a celebrity having not even played a full season. Pro Bowls, Miss Universe, dating American Idols...Not to mention the media is all over the guy. It's all pretty amazing really.

:hammer:

You'd think he'd won a superbowl or a playoff game for all the hype he's getting.

Just to add, Romo's 2006 ranked 3rd in all-time Cowboys history in three different categories: passer rating, completion percentage, and yards per attempt.

No other season by a Dallas QB even ranks in the top five in all three of those categories.

Try these numbers out.

Against playoff teams 4 tds and 10 ints and a 1-4 record with the lone win coming against Indy when they were in a slump and lost to the Texans and Titans and Jaguars too.

can't believe Key would say somthing like this after seeing Romo completely dismantle his team
In his first start, no less. Memory can be oh so selective.

I think that is what he was so bitter about, that game that was supposed to be all about him. Everyone should have talked about how Key has MNF record for TD with different team (which means no team wants to keep you). I bet he wanted to win so badly because Dallas happens to be the team that let him go for TO and he wanted to show he is better.

ESPN and ABC suck big hairy balls, I stopped watching NFL primetime because I couldn't take any more of Chris "oh I love Brady, please marry me" Berman and Steve "I hate the Cowboys especially Romo" Young. Adding Johnson just made that show more stupid than it already is.

The jury is still out on Romo, plain and simple.

Yea but everybody knows that. Romo might be a little overhyped but then again he's the QB of the Cowboys. He's got what, a 2 year deal? He deserved the pro bowl nod regardless of what the detractors say. He's never had close to the fanfare of say Reggie Bush.

Again - Key never said Romo was not the real deal. He was basically saying Romo has been covered in the press too much ( see the definitions of overhyped vs. overrated earlier in the thread ). Seeing all the Romo-Simpson then Romo-Underwood articles and all the Romo the new Tom Brady articles that exploded on the scene as soon as Romo did well for us and then all the Romo bobbled the FG articles, how can anyone NOT think all the coverage nationally of Romo hasn't been excessive. Even T.O. had to take a backseat to Romo for the last few months when it comes to articles on them nationally.

I don't know how his dates making it to the tabloids makes him overrated, afterall, his name has been linked w/ 2 popular and successful chicks

but I believe he is being overhyped to some extent, although I think DeAngelo Hall is the most overhyped player in the league

IMO, when Key said Romo only played 5 games...I believe he meant, that he only showed up for 5 games (that he played good for 5 games)........and that those other games were garbage.

Kinda like if I were to say, as a Spurs fan, Manu only played 3 games in the PHX series.......I know he played all 6 games, but he was basically nonexistent for 3 of them....so he played 3 games......3 games where he had a huge positive impact.

Welp, ,as far as "overhyped" goes, Keyshawn is the king. For never has a player been able to overhype themselves like that man. Atleast in Romo's case it's everyone else doing the talking, not Tony himself. Key's pathetic and I think we're finally going to really get a good look at this now that he's thrown himself out there on ESPN like that.

In Romo's interview at dallascowboys.com, he mentioned that he never believes he is good enough, so he works really hard. That's not verbatim, but it is the gist of his comments. Anyone who always strives to get better, like Romo, does not have the big head. As long as Romo's head is on straight, it doesn't matter what mediots like Keyshawn have to say. Overrated or overhyped? In my opion, Tony Romo is neither. He is the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, who played very well and showed a lot leadership even as the team was crumbling around him. Publicity and ratings come with the territory.
