Romo hasn't been around long enough to make any claims other than he can definitely play. The D did let the O down at the end of the season. Sure a great offense should keep it in the ballpark most of the time. Romo did get a lot of hype. But it just comes with the territory.

Nice looking young kid who was undrafted comes in for THE DALLAS COWBOYS replacing a former overall number one QB in a high profile game. In NY. With Bill Parcells. Then makes good.

It's a feel good story on America's Team. Sure he got overhyped. Not like he didn't deserve some of it. A good bit of it.

Key is just developing a rep using one of the top stories in sports last year. He's smarter than I thought. Did he really say anything that bad?

What do Keyshawn know anyways, he thought it was ludacris to draft Tedd Ginn at the Miami Dolphins pick.

And where's Keyshawn at now?

Out of a job in the NFL.... Retired..

He talked about Dwayne Jarrett more than I did. Coincidence is that's the same dude that took his job.

He thought Ludacris drafted Tedd Ginn Jr.? I don't think he sold enough records to buy the team.

Peyton Manning - 2 games in the 60s. 2 games in the 70s, 1 in the 80s.
Drew Brees - 1 game at 59.9, 2 games in the 60s, 1 in the 70s, 2 in the 80s.
Tom Brady - 1 in the 30s (Indy), 1 in the 50s (MIA), 3 in the 70s, 4 in the 80s.
Carson Palmer - 1 in the 50s, 2 in the 60s, 1 in the 70s, 2 in the 80s.

So, yes, the best QBs, every so often, go into the 50s and even lower. But not 3 out of 5 games.

Your analysis is somewhat flawed as it fails to consider the context of those games. Even the best quarterbacks are plagued by prolongued stretches of poor play and inconsistency.

Peyton Manning, for instance, posted QB ratings of 67.7 and 61.4 during a 4 week span from late November to early December. He also had ratings of 78.9 and 79.9 during a three week span in September.

Drew Brees posted ratings of 59.9 and 53.5 in consecutive weeks in mid-December.

In 3 out of 6 weeks following the midseason point, Tom Brady posted ratings of 34.0, 76.2, and 55.1.

Carson Palmer posted ratings of 69.9 and 63.4 in consecutive weeks in mid-December.

And finally (solely for good measure), Jason Campbell posted ratings of 74.2, 52.2, and 57.9 in three consecutive weeks.

These numbers clearly demonstrate that Tony Romo is in very good company: Poor games tend to occur in bunches...for every quarterback.

In fairness after 5 games played by Romo he was being hyped big time with fans putting his name in the ring of honor. Even many here are curious to see Romo this year to see if he is the real deal.

This is true. I know I want to see.

But... "overhyped" is the wrong word to use. He stepped in and performed. Sure he had growing pains but he had never started a game before last season... so based on that Key just chose a shock word. Nothing more.

Romo led us to winning record and playoff birth... did Key?

Romo played 10.5 games and put up some of the best passing numbers in the league. He ranked No. 1 in yards per attempt, No. 1 in average yards at catch (the length of the pass thrown), No. 1 in percentage of passes thrown more than 20 yards, No. 2 in TD percentage, No. 2 in completion percentage, No. 2 in third-down passer rating, No. 3 in overall first-down percentage and No. 5 in overall passer rating.

He still has to prove that he can do the same things over a longer period of time, but he absolutely played very well last season. It's not like he was getting the hype without doing anything.

:hammer:

In other words, he earned it.

I think alot of you are confusing "overhyped" with "overrated".

Keyshawn didn't say Romo was "overrated"( not as good as people were making him out to be ) but that he was "overhyped" ( over promoted, publicized to excess ). Anyone who could not see that Romo was indeed being publicized outrageously has to be blind. He was and even still is all over the place, on every sports show doing interviews, on the gossip pages with Underwood, etc.

I've seen more national coverage of Romo than even of Peyton Manning, the former most hyped player out there. Sports writers all seemed to be wanting to be among the first to annoint Romo as the next Tom Brady. Hopefully he will be.

So it's amusing to see so many pour hatred onto Key for comments that they are misunderstanding. Romo was definitely overhyped ( extensively publicized ) ever since he took over as starter for the Boys. Overrated - I don't think so, and Key did not say he thought so either.

I don't think hyped over hyped is a bad word, Romo was and is getting a lot of attention I think Keyshawn said what he thought and in some regards maybe he was right considering the attention that Romo got after such little time. I fully support Romo and think he will show himself as the real deal this season but I don't take Keys comments as some evil slam as some are. He did not say that Romo was a bad QB only commented on the hype he was receiving. Many around here talk about top players as being over hyped or worse over rated despite the fact that player ranks high

I agree. And that "overhype" was due to incredible start by Romo and media ran with it. Romo didn't exactly helped with getting overhyped with all the interviews, Jessica Simpson situation and getting involved with Carrie Underwood, not saying what he did was wrong but those events fueled the fire even more.

Key is now part of media and he is going to say things we may not agree with but from what I've seen, he tells like it is.

He was over hyped only by himself. The media never spent much time praising Keyshawn and I have not heard the media claim Key as one of the all time great WR's. As for being over rated I think Key was one of the best possession WR around. The guy will work across the middle and does not shy away from the big hits and yet still manages to make the play.
