07:26 AM ET 12.12 | Defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin sounds like a man open to suggestions these days, particularly from boss Jerry Jones. Jones said the Cowboys need to "take more risks" blitzing to force more turnovers. "We want to blitz, and we did blitz on third down," Kiffin said. "Good golly, you've got to change it up. You've got to come after them. You can't let that quarterback stand back there all day." ... Kiffin fought off a blitz of his own Wednesday. The 73-year-old was asked if he's the right man to get the Cowboys' defensive woes solved. "I don't know. I'm here right now," Kiffin said. "I've got to be the right guy right now. I can't get into all that." Kiffin was then asked whether he's considered stepping aside and letting defensive line coach Rod Marinelli take over for him. "Not really. I don't think so."

Can't turn chicken .... into chicken salad. He could go full Rob Ryan scheme-tastic, and they'd still look like hot garbage.

Too many young players playing big roles. Too many players with sub-par talent. And the folks with decent talent are all injured.

said it during the game thread...Kiffin cannot actually take the field and MAKE the plays. Webb is right there...he has to bat the ball down or jar it lose. Scandrick is right there...he drops an interception in his hands. Brandon Carr is chasing players all over the field like it is flag football. DeMarcus Ware looks overwhelmed...no one planned for him to be blocked by one guy all night. Stop letting these HIGHLY paid players off the hook and dumping on the old man. We blitzed...it did NOT get there! You have to get there! If you are not going to get there...you blast the RB picking the blitz up so you can decrease his effectiveness as the game wears on. I think back to the days when Roy Williams would light into a RB picking up the blitz. He would literally finish their day!

If we're looking for a quick fix to our defensive woes, I seriously doubt it'll be in the offing anytime soon. Even if Kiffin were to step down, the emergency players on the defensive line would remain and that's a major factor in our failings. Increasing man coverage would help but only to a degree until the d-line starters return in 2014. Some help may be afforded in the next draft but Jerry still remains as one could easily throw a wet blanket on the pickings. I pray we have a record-setting run of good fortune in the months and even the years ahead. We'll need it.

Too much spread offense in 2013.

I wish the media would go after Jason or Jerry like that to their face...pick on the old man coaching the defense, not the idiots that hired him...SMH

You, my friend, are a genius. These guys have so many scapegoats every year, it's just laughable. I'm surprised it's still happenin.

Should've been left on the tarmac in Chicago, but Jerry has to much pride and arrogance for that.

Right after the Chicago debacle, Jerry has been spouting about "taking more risks" on defense.

I'm sure the Green Bay coaching staff was listening to that blabbermouth and will be more than ready to take on any kind of blitz package Methuseleh can put together.

so why is this seemingly always the case in Valley Ranch?

People foolishly blamed Wade. Everyone prematurely gave up on Rob Ryan, including myself. Here we are again likely in need of another Def Coordinator.
