Kiffin unsure he can turn Cowboys around

After Monday night, I'm first in line for Kiffin to be let go, but I'm really more interested in getting rid of his scheme than him as a coach. I just don't want to spend the next 5 years watching us get lit up by other teams throwing the ball to the giant uncovered area on the field called we call "the zone", while we acquire players to get us the pass rush we need to make the scheme work.

Kiffin knows he has three games to perform some alchemy on our D. The Joneses can't reasonably expect him to be able to it with zero pass rush and B.W. Webb and Jeff Heath on the field at their current level of development. Kiffin knows that, he just can't talk about it. He knows he's their fall guy now, but he did get paid well for it. IMO, of course.

I'm sure the Green Bay coaching staff was listening to that blabbermouth and will be more than ready to take on any kind of blitz package Methuseleh can put together.

What? You don't see the genius in our owner coming out and telling the world what changes he's going to force on our coaching staff?

Dude, there are distinct advantages to that.

Sounds like he has finally figured out what has been painfully obvious to anyone willing to accept the truth. The players Dallas has on defense are not really that talented and as a group they are simply too stupid to run any scheme effectively on a consistent basis from week to week. Yes, they will have a good play here and there, maybe even a good half or good game, but then they will come right back and lay down for a team that has a couple of playmakers on offense. If you are talented but stupid, you might be able to get by. If you are smart but lacking in talent, you might be able to figure out a way to succeed. But if you are stupid and untalented, you have no chance to make it. Unfortunately, that's where Dallas' defense finds themselves.

said it during the game thread...Kiffin cannot actually take the field and MAKE the plays. Webb is right there...he has to bat the ball down or jar it lose. Scandrick is right there...he drops an interception in his hands. Brandon Carr is chasing players all over the field like it is flag football. DeMarcus Ware looks overwhelmed...no one planned for him to be blocked by one guy all night. Stop letting these HIGHLY paid players off the hook and dumping on the old man. We blitzed...it did NOT get there! You have to get there! If you are not going to get there...you blast the RB picking the blitz up so you can decrease his effectiveness as the game wears on. I think back to the days when Roy Williams would light into a RB picking up the blitz. He would literally finish their day!

Here, here but to admit that means that the problems facing this team are much bigger and systematic, and likely to take much longer to resolve, so rather than facing that harsh reality many prefer to crucify the old guy (and not the old guy that should be crucified).

Right after the Chicago debacle, Jerry has been spouting about "taking more risks" on defense.

I'm sure the Green Bay coaching staff was listening to that blabbermouth and will be more than ready to take on any kind of blitz package Methuseleh can put together.

This to the 100th power.

BW Webb is terrible. As soon as he sets foot on the field, the QB locks in on his zone or man and just marches down the field. For the last 10 years or so, we are one of the worst blitzing teams in the league. WE NEVER GET TO THE QB!!! We always run into the RB, but never get to the QB. It didn't matter if it was Zimmer, Ryan of Kiffen as the Def Coordinator, we never have been able to blitz and get to the QB on a consistent basis. Blitzing in Dallas is an utter FAIL....

Scheme is over rated. At the end of the day-- great coaches put their players in the best position to succeed. We simply need to examine what our starters on defense do the best, and let them do that.

If the corners are better at man than zone, play man more. If Church is a better run defender than Bruce Carter, then play the heavy dime package more and get Carter off the field. Too many egos are in the way in Dallas. Too many players are deciding when they get to take themselves out of the game.

This is definitely an all time low for the Dallas D. To be in "contention" for a division title and have this much chaos on the defensive side of the ball is a tragedy.

07:26 AM ET 12.12 | Defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin sounds like a man open to suggestions these days, particularly from boss Jerry Jones. Jones said the Cowboys need to "take more risks" blitzing to force more turnovers. "We want to blitz, and we did blitz on third down," Kiffin said. "Good golly, you've got to change it up. You've got to come after them. You can't let that quarterback stand back there all day." ... Kiffin fought off a blitz of his own Wednesday. The 73-year-old was asked if he's the right man to get the Cowboys' defensive woes solved. "I don't know. I'm here right now," Kiffin said. "I've got to be the right guy right now. I can't get into all that." Kiffin was then asked whether he's considered stepping aside and letting defensive line coach Rod Marinelli take over for him. "Not really. I don't think so."

He sounds an awful lot like Wade Phillips did after the Jacksonville game in 2010. This was prior to the team completely laying down against the Packers.

It's a horrible way to go out for a coach who had a terrific career. Hopefully, the players don't completely quit on him - he deserves better than that - however, it would be hard to tell if they do based off of how they are playing.

There are a lot of built in excuses for kiffen. Injuries, rookies playing big roles etc.

I still think if we had a good DC, we'd be able to stop teams at least once or twice a game no matter what injuries we have.

Should've been left on the tarmac in Chicago, but Jerry has to much pride and arrogance for that.

I think you are confusing ego with pride

Jerry has an ego to fill the stadium but he has no pride

so why is this seemingly always the case in Valley Ranch?

People foolishly blamed Wade. Everyone prematurely gave up on Rob Ryan, including myself. Here we are again likely in need of another Def Coordinator.

Circus atmosphere thanx to Jerry
