Kobe Bryant is a great player. I don't love Kobe but I acknowledge his greatness. The NBA today is a different game then it was in the 80s.
For those who say that he is not as great as Jordan, perhaps. However, Jordan was not a great outside shooter when he came into the league. It actually took him some time to strengthen this part of his game. Jordan is great because of when he played IMO. Had he played with those Bulls teams at the same time as Bird played with Boston and Magic played with LA, he would not have won all those championships. I believe Jordan and the Bulls would have ended up much like Dr. J and the Sixers. Dr. J was every bit the phenom Michael was. They were very simular players.
When Larry Bird joined the Celtics, they were not devoid of talent. The Celts had Cornbread Maxwell, Dave Cowens, Tiny Archibald, Pistol Pete, Chris Ford and ML Carr. The very next season, they aquired The Chief and Kevin McHale. Bird played with a great deal of talent in Boston from the get go.
Magic was a great player, that's true, but Magic was never a Center. He played Center in the 6th game of the 79-80 NBA Finals against the Sixers. He only played it for one game and not all of that game. He played all 5 positions but I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that he could play all 5 positions.
