News: Kris Richard: Dallas Cowboys Defense is a "Work in Progress"

Also a fraud. Completely understand why he got fired in Seattle. Let’s see this defense has Lawrence, Quinn, Collins, Smith, LVE, Jones, Lee, and Chido. I count 8 guys that can and have played at pro bowl levels in their career. Yet the defense is a work in progress. This is the worst group of coaches in the league. They really are the worst.

Kris Richard: "We have yet to put together for a whole entire game, our style, for who we are,” said the Cowboys defensive backs coach/passing game coordinator. “From what we know to be true. For what we believe to be true. When we do it, the proof is there. There isn’t enough consistency there with it yet. So we’re still a work in progress.”

Thoughts on Kris Richard and his process? I think we all know where this is going.
Time to move on from this way of thinking.

To be fair, it's NOT all his defense. The secondary is very good, the linebackers are very good but none of that matters when you have a garbage line. It's literally the absolute worst in the NFL.

So, for all of the accolades the FO and McClay get for landing promising talent, they have screwed the pooch on the D line. We either draft players with special needs for their addictions or crap the bed on early picks just to get rid of them.

Trysten Hill is the first defensive tackle we've drafted in the early rounds since Maryland in 1991. Wrap your head around that.

Throw in Collins as a 3rd who is average. Hill can't even stay active.

What does this franchise have against defensive tackles?

Eh.... I wouldn't say that. He literally teaches his CB's and DB's to not follow/intercept the ball. His secondary gets burned at least 5 times a game (remember the 90+ yard TD against the Jets last week?). It's not the worst, but its far from "very good."

Our linebackers have a lot of talent but I'm not sure what's going on with them right now.

Another process?! Is Velveeta the official cheese substitute of the Dallas Cowboys?

A few weeks ago people were talking about Richard becoming the Skins HC or some other team's HC. 3 Weeks and 3 losses later Richard can't even sniff an interview. Dumb statements like what he just said will not help his cause.

The defense is putrid right now and none of the coaches have a clue as to why.

And Richard has been here how long now, and still trying to figure out who can play and who can’t? Mr. Richard, you can start by starting Jourdan Lewis, the only ballhawk and sure tackler on our secondary. At least he looks for the ball.

i.e. Marinelli hates the blitz. KR likes to blitz [based on Legion of Boom]

Marinelli wants to play BBDB. KR wants to use pressure and 4-2-5 blitzes.

This defense is wrecking our season.

Again.

Also the " dog chase cat" DB not looking for the ball is getting really old. All the QB has to do is overthrow a little and let the receiver make a play , as the DB isn't going to
look until its too late. Do a little stutter then, and let him run into you and we get Anthony Brown flag, when the ball actually hit him in the back...

Used to be thats uncatchable...

I was going to write the exact same thing. Lawrence, Quinn, Collins, Smith, LVE, Jones, Lee, and Chido. I guess the 'work in progress' is Safety Heath and Safety Woods and DL Woods. I can add Richard to the list of coaches I want gone along with Garrett and Marinelli.

I don't know how much of it is a mix of what Marinelli wants and what Richard wants. It was made clear last year, though, that Richard was calling the shot during the game, so I'm not sure how much Marinelli is responsible for the failures.

It could be a lot like what's happening on offense, though. You have one person (Richard, Moore) essentially trying to do the best they can with another person's (Marinelli, Garrett) scheme. The question is whether that simply does not work or none of the coaches are particular good at scheming.
