Marinelli wants to play BBDB. KR wants to use pressure and 4-2-5 blitzes.

This defense is wrecking our season.

Is that really true? I don't recall the Legion of Boom being a huge blitz team.

EDIT: It's not true. I just looked. Richard was the DC in Seattle in 2017.

The Seahawks were 5th in the league in terms of 4 man rushes and bottom of the league in bringing more than 4 pass rushers.

Similar trends for 2016 and 2015. So no, it doesn't appear Richard likes to blitz.

The BBDB scheme that Marinelli wants to use doesn't work with Richards 4-2-5.

I want them both gone. KR tanked the SEA defense and they gave him the boot.

Thoughts on Kris Richard and his process? I think we all know where this is going.

He fits right in with this staff. When JG is canned they need to clean house, but I don't expect that will happen.

Richard doesn't like to blitz. Data from his 3 years as the DC in Seattle shows he was primarily a 4 man rush team.

Sometimes people confuse talent with schemes. They got pressure with front 4, didn't need to blitz much. Also their safeties scarred QB into holding the ball, which helped the DL.

I wonder if some of the confusion is also that they sometimes employed "DEs" that could also be OLBs.............

But they were pretty much primarily always a 4 man rush defense.

Those guys played like a 6man line. wish we had that here.

Eh.... I wouldn't say that. He literally teaches his CB's and DB's to not follow/intercept the ball. His secondary gets burned at least 5 times a game (remember the 90+ yard TD against the Jets last week?). It's not the worst, but its far from "very good."

Our linebackers have a lot of talent but I'm not sure what's going on with them right now.

You're suggesting he teaches them to not do what a fundamental job of a corner does? Mmm K - Agree to disagree.

If you take the secondary and the linebackers they're a very talented and deep group. The issue is that the D line is so bad that opposing offensive linemen and backs are easily getting to the second level.

It's no coincidence that wherever Richard has been calling plays, that team has not been very good at generating turnovers. Now that's not all his secondaries fault, but there is no question the more passive coverages we play does not lead to turnovers. Throw in a DL that can't get to the QB consistently and you have a team that just can't really stop teams or get turnovers.

I think you overrate the talent of the secondary too. They have one really good CB in Jones. One talented one that is just lost right now in Awuzie. They have a slot guy who is "ehhhh" and a guy in Lewis that the coaching staff apparently doesn't think can play. Then at S, I don't think anyone can sit here and try to argue that they are really talented.

The "work in progress" is because they have failed to assemble the talent to have a true contender defense.

this defense cannot be compared to the legion of boom. the lob was far superior to the cowboys in terms of better players. better corners, better safeties, better lb's and better d-line.

If you're saying the scheme has limitations, then I agree 100% - not a fan. But you'd be hard pressed to find that many other secondary units as good.

The Lewis situation is a head scratcher. No way Brown is better IMO.

Not sure about the "again" part of that post. In fact, last season our Team defense was ranked #7, while the offense was ranked a putrid #21.
