Seattle was losing defensive players to free agency and to injury. This put Pete Carroll on the hot seat. Richard was popular with the players as was their oc. So to cover his butt, Carroll released both and brought in New ones who would be less likely to be hired as his replacement should the hawks have a bad year. Same thing Mike tomlin Pittsburg did to Bruce arians
Truer words were never spoken......or typed, in this case.

That's some Game of Thrones type move. I don't know much about Tomlin, but Sneaky Pete never was one to stand and face the music (jumped ship at USC the moment scholarship sanctions were rumored).

Also was he calling plays. When the cameras cut to him doing the game, it looked like he had a call sheet in his hands and he was on the headphones and Marinelli did not have phones.

This was the second time I noticed this as in a preseason game I seen the same. Has anyone heard anything?
Earlier this year we offered eberflus the dc job should he accept. So the fo was already thinking about marinelli's release. It should be noted the Colts defense has totally turned things around. I think this is rod's final season and Richard will be the New dc.

Same feeling. There were rumors of Marinelli thinking about retiring. My baseless guess is that Marinelli was going to retire if Eberflus took the DC job. Eberflus balked (probably wanted a fresh start) and Marinelli did us a solid by sticking around while auditioning the next DC. Or I could be wrong.

If we can get an OC that can have a similar impact, I’d actually be ok with Garrett sticking around for a bit.
If (should) a new head coach be brought in, he should be allowed to hire his own oc.

Can't say I'd be against that

I agree but I think it was Marinelli putting in his notice.

The cowboys being proactive......kind of.

I think Eberflus did the same.

There's a shot of him with the playsheet.

I saw Eberflus' defense gave up 34 but bounced back against WAS (familiarity maybe?). I'm curious how the playcalling for the back 7 is different between the two. Not sure who's responsible for dialing up blitzes between Rod and his passing game coordinator, though.

My main curiosity about the playcalling is trying to pinpoint if it's scheme or simply personnel decisions. Byron at corner is looking good and Lewis doesn't seem to be missed.

Didn’t really take a genius to know Jones was not a S after awhile, and for us to play close man. Gosh...if I had a nickel for every fan post complaint about “Here’s Rod’s 10 yard cushion again..” I can’t stand that guys “bending” philosophy on defense, and how he always is happy with any player picked, and prefers projects for the love of trying to mold them into something years after the fact. I want a DC who WANTS to punch the offense in the mouth, and despises the term “bending”. I’m not bending anything between the 20’s,nor am interested in playing musical chairs with “flex players”.

I can see a clear difference in the way the players look for the pass now not just their up close technique. Lots of changes in our corner play. It's night and day at least to me.

This is such bs. You do realize if the coordinators are that good they won’t last here? Then who are we still stuck with when they leave?

Eberflus is actually a good coach too. It was Dooley that sucked big time. And Dooley was brought here by Garrett.

I like Kris controlling the DBs and Rod the front together they seem to make a dang good DC. Not sure I’d be a fan of Kris having full control of the D wasn’t a fan of Seattle under him. If Rod leaves hope they bring in a really good D-line coach better than Lett.

This week, Seattle will be having a rough time...a tough Week 3 matchup when the Seahawks face the Cowboys, who have yet to allow a WR to score or exceed 51 yards.

That's more than just a secondary coaching effect, to this fan at least.

It would be a tough separation for Marinelli to up and leave, after his sacrifice and start of the rewards for a defensive rebuilding effort by himself.

He just might turn out to be the best assistant coach acquired under the Garrett regime. I know the sample size is rather small at this point but the difference in the secondary play and the defense overall is markedly better. The defensive backs actually turn around to locate the ball now. It seems like years since that has happened at that position. And you’ve got to love all the press coverage.

Our next D coordinator in the making. Let’s hope it comes to fruition.

Or even HC!
