I’m guessing you’re a Seahawks fan. Seattle has had too 5-10ish defenses with Richard. He’s clearly a better coordinator than Rod in 2018.I like Kris controlling the DBs and Rod the front together they seem to make a dang good DC. Not sure I’d be a fan of Kris having full control of the D wasn’t a fan of Seattle under him. If Rod leaves hope they bring in a really good D-line coach better than Lett.
Nope just a football fan that watches any game on. Yes Kris had some better Ds but I wasn’t a fan of his D vs what I saw with Quinn with same core players. What I am basically saying is I like the two together vs either one separate.I’m guessing you’re a Seahawks fan. Seattle has had too 5-10ish defenses with Richard. Our next D coordinator in the making. Let’s hope it comes to fruition.
Here's a prediction. Richard has a better chance at being the next head coach than the next DC. If we make the playoffs, Garrett and the staff (even old man Marinelli) stays. If not, Richard will be head coach. He just might turn out to be the best assistant coach acquired under the Garrett regime. I know the sample size is rather small at this point but the difference in the secondary play and the defense overall is markedly better. The defensive backs actually turn around to locate the ball now. It seems like years since that has happened at that position. And you’ve got to love all the press coverage.

I think he's our next DC.
That's some Game of Thrones type move. I don't know much about Tomlin, but Sneaky Pete never was one to stand and face the music (jumped ship at USC the moment scholarship sanctions were rumored).
He has, or so far it certainly appears this way, done a fantastic job turning this secondary around. One of the best hires this team has made in some time. I love me some defense and it's nice to see some being played in Dallas.
I like Marinelli and respect the guy but its just about time for him to ride into the sunset. I'm excited about Richards.

I think Mr Richard is already the face of the staff and as such acting HC already. I think PC felt the heat in Seattle and that is why he let him go.
This topic, and the obvious influence that a coach like Richard has, only reinforces my personal belief that the prior coaches and staff - and extension of the current head coach - is what is holding this team back. Just like the defense is showing, the player talent is there. It's only now that Richard is here that that talent is put to its best use.
Meanwhile, all of the coaches charged with coaching the offense - top to bottom - are failing in their responsibilities. Despite a team stocked with first round picks and Pro Bowlers, the Cowboys offense currently ranks 30th.
I have no doubt that Richard is a significant part of this team's resurgence by the defense. He was a great hire. I don't give Marinelli much credit.
On the other hand, part of this defense's dominant play has been simply acquiring talent. We acquired several good DBs long before Richard got here and they have starting experience. He has talent to work with.
The DL has lots of resources in it including several high picks. Now we have three first round value players at LB. It was also time for this defense to come together.
He’s a great coach
He also has some talented guys to work with
Talent is undoubtedly a big factor and I wouldn't disagree with you in that one bit.
But I think the quality of coaching is making a difference as well. The Cowboys currently have the luxury of having two defensive coordinators. And those two coaches have essentially agreed to split the team in half, "you coach the front end and I'll coach the back end". More specifically, I think Marinelli is focused on the defensive line, which has always been his preference anyway.
And Richard's early call to put Byron Jones at corner full time looks like genius. And he's also blitzing his linebackers more than Marinelli ever did. And you can look it up that they played a big role in the six sacks the defense had against the Giants.
The results are that the defense is playing better at all levels. And I think that it's a combination of both better talent and better coaching coming together, as well as two coaches focused on their best roles.
Our next head coach you mean.He just might turn out to be the best assistant coach acquired under the Garrett regime. Yes. That's true. On the other hand our linebackers are so fast it is allowing defensive flexibility in play calling that we haven't had in many years. The linebackers can actually cover receivers in a way that they couldn't in years past.
As a side note, in the Panthers game, I have heard commentators state that the Panthers were intentionally trying to match up certain players on Lee, implying that he was the weak king which was initially surpising, but makes sense now.
Was Lee already falling off the cliff last year and we just didn't see it? The team obviously thought that linebacker play was critical since they drafted one very early.
