Kris Richard's possible replacement?

Sean Lee is not retiring, he is playing somewhere next year, I hope it is in Dallas somehow.

Hate to say this but Lee can barely get through an entire game, let alone a season. Remember in his words, he put in a lot of extra conditioning during the offseason hoping to avoid the injury bug.

How about this guy? He's only 32....groom him for your next DC for couple years and then HC.

I think he defintley has potential, but maybe too soon to go from player to DC. there is a learning curve no matter what anybody says.

Lee ........he probably knows the entire defense as well ( maybe better ) Martinelli

I like Lee as secondary coach just a little better than I would like Colombo as WR coach. Put him in his natural habitat. I would probably put Bloom in secondary.

I can see Lee taking a path similar to Mike Vrabel. He retired and went back to college for three years before returning to the NFL.

Coached at various levels for 7 years before he ended up with the head coaching job in Tennessee.

agree. he needs a little seasoning and mentoring and he will be great. one of the great things about Lee was his mind and ability to recognize plays and that goes aa long way in coaching.....he could also start like Leon Lett and Columbo as an assistant type and move to a position coach for LBs and then to DC.

I love Sean Lee and think he will make a great coach one day BUT we have to stop anointing people. I'd love to see him go be a LB coach in college, then work his way to NFL LB coach or college DC, and then an NFL DC, similar to Mike Vrabel's path. You have to learn how to follow before you can learn how to lead.
I don’t think he needs to go to college ranks but he’s not ready to be a DC either
He could start as a position coach and in a few years DC
I don’t think kris is leaving this year but we shall see
Ideally kris stays and rod stays, Lee goes to the staff where he can learn from two good ones and maybe eventually be a DC

I'd love to keep him in the organization. In any capacity other than expensive, inactive player.

As our Passing game coordinator and db coach? Rod is our DC.

If we lose Richard, the next DC should be Brent Venables or Jimmy Lake. With the league trying to infuse college offensive concepts you might want to get a jump on DC's who have experience defending it.
I disagree. There are very few teams running a gimmick college offense and the ones that are haven't won a thing in this league, yet. Hire a coach that knows how to defend against the majority (and successful) NFL offenses instead of getting cute thinking that you're suddenly ahead of the curve and getting your *** whipped on a weekly basis for your troubles.

Oh, I'm not saying from a player to DC. I'm saying from a player to an assistant coach. Martinelli's protege for couple years. Jason Garret was QB coach two years before Jerry hired him as OC.

Also, it's no secret Lee's a film room freak ( mean that in a good way) on the same level of Peyton Manning. In fact, it would not surprise me at all to see knowledge of this defense on the level of what we'll seeing with Romo as a broadcaster.

The key issue is replacing Richard's CB techniques and DB schemes.

We need a guy well-versed in Cover1/3.
I'd be looking at the old SEA tree again.

Not really sure why. Defenses in college are pathetic!

There have been a number of coaching changes this year. I wonder who would be on the short list of available talented defensive coaches. Todd Bowles name has been mentioned but I think someone said he's a 3-4 guy.

Rod is the DC for the foreseeable future. Ben Bloom will step in and assume Richard's role if he leaves.

He just signed on to be the Bucs DC.

Makes sense. Playoff quality teams should have as many rookie coaches as possible. If you can get rookie coordinators as well that is even better.
