As usual, I want a big ol' DT. Here's the dude that would wildly change our D, the guy who would make everyone around him better. Freakish athlete for his size, disruptive, this is the guy:

Tim Settle, VT.

What's up, why him?

I don't make many predictions. This is the rare instance. Settle will be the best NT out of this draft.

Better than Vea? Yes. For a huge reason. Settle has an explosive first step. Vea is slow off the ball.

Settle collapses the pocket but at the same time stays strong against the run.

Complete beast. 2nd round grade due strictly to coming out w/ 2 yrs of eligibility remaining. Problem is, there's a good chance he won't be there for our 2nd round slot. This cat has top 10 ability.

Is settle going to have weight and conditioning problems his entire career?

Like the player, that’s my one worry.

Honestly im not player specific on this particular year of the draft for nose tackles, there are so many good ones. If I get, Vea, Nnadi, Settle, Senat, Ford.Any of the dont care, just gimme

Like I said that's his only knock.

That's what's keeping out of 1st round talks IMO.

Yup, that's also my primary concern. And I have no idea. Is he a kid that takes to coaching and will maintain/improve his conditioning?

Per his NFL draft profile:
Weaknesses (besides his weight questions):

Playing style is frenetic and leads to balance issues. Over-extends and finds himself on the ground too often. Played in just 23 college games. Can be inconsistent with hand usage. Will need additional technique work to better take on double teams. Moved by down blocks when he doesn't stay square.

He's a raw physical talent. That can work well in college, but in the NFL he'll face top talent every game.

Wouldn't take him before the second round. The question is will some NFL team be wowed with the physical aspects and take him early in the draft, such as first round or early in the second?

He might very well be available with the Cowboys' second pick, and I'd be okay with that...

Yup. One of the things I like is that all his weaknesses are correctable.

Lance ZIerlein also had Christian Kirk as a 4th rounder, so not sure how accurate his profiles are.

That's true, but for comparison, his draft grade is 6.17. JJ Watt's was 8.37.

Watt was drafted with the 11th overall pick, for Settle to be picked at 19 would mean some team felt his grade was way too low, so I don't find it at all unreasonable that Settle would be available in the second round....

His NFL profile says Kirk is a projected 2nd or 3rd rounder. 5-11, not a prototypical wide receiver, "more quick than fast". Walter Football has him anywhere from 1st to 3r round, is the 5th rated receiver. Think he'll probably be an early second rounder, unless he shows a 4.4 or such 40 time, which might bump him up a bit...

What's it going to be then, eh?

Mods, please close this thread.

Jerry Jones has just announced to the world that they are not taking a 1-Tech tackle early in this draft.

I actually expect him to go early 2nd.

Settle is raw. Came out after only 2 years. Has some technique stuff to work on, that's why the low draft grade.

Kirk played mostly the slot at A&M, which explains the inconsistent draft grading. Can he play outside? Prolly, but unknown at present. Putting him on the outside, he'll be learning a new position. Sometimes that doesn't take long, and sometimes it does.

It was Stephen Jones and he said that they would not take a TRUE NT in the first, that they would have to also have some 3 tech traits as well.

Generational type talent. This guy is a Vince Wilfork clone.
He's the kind of DT that can make our defense great. He would make the DL unit with the other guys we have elite. The D has plenty of quality pass rushers.

I think some of you may be way too concerned w/ this value stuff. I guarantee you that teams like NE and PITT don't give a crapp about value. Vince Wilfork was the 16th pick in the draft. Betcha there was a ton of fans that didn't like the pick.

So, you got a guy who looks like that nasty NT w/ incredible movement skills who can both collapse the pocket and stuff the run. Guy will require a constant double team, which will suddenly make everyone on either side of him better. He could seriously put us in the super bowl.

But 19 is too high? Why?
One reason NE and Pitt don’t worry as much about value is their complete confidence in the evaluations their scouting dept has made. They know their board contains players that fit their philosophy and vision.
