KTCK on what Parcells wants in his OLB

Zimmer with a bogus defense which lacked a true pass rusher, and had only 1 legitamte corner ( a rookie at that), managed to squeek out a #1 D. Now I know it probably wasn't the best defense in the league, being ranked #1 still says something about it. The guy with the most yards rushing might not be THE best running back in the league, but you can't disregard the numbers entirely. Let's see what Zimmer does with the defense next year.

But I know how it is around here, if the D plays well, if we are aggressive, it was Parcells, but if we ever **** up, it was Zimmer. You can't have it both ways. Parcells knows defense, and the fact that he retained Zimmer, and still has kept him around speaks a great deal about ZImmer, I think.

Try not to make so much sense in the future, OK?

hmm lets see we ranked 11th in sacks. top 10 defense and ranked 10th or higher in many categories, that with three rookies starting, 3 injured starters and a new defense.

I beg to defer. and we ranked right behind washington in many of those categories, and they have the genius called Williams!!

so if not zimmer, then whom?

I am only kidding, I like Zimmer.

Good stuff Inman. Very good, insightful information!

I still say if Lawson or Wimbley aren't available a good pick in the 2nd or 3rd round would be Parys Haralson out of Tennessee. He would make a great, big, physical attacking LBer. I've seen him play for 4 years and he is an animal!! Check out his scouting report...

HERE HE IS GETTING AFTER NEXT YEAR'S #1 PICK!!

DSC_3692-lg.jpg

SCOUTING REPORT:
Parys Haralson
Height: 6-0
Weight: 248
40 Speed: 4.80 E
Position: Defensive End
College: Tennessee
Final Grade: J 6.2 Rush-LB

GM JR Scouting LLC

SUMMARY
Haralson is a very good athlete who can defeat offensive tackle pass blocks consistently with his variety of pass-rush moves, closes quickly on the quarterback and makes hard hits on the quarterback. He is a very active and competitive defensive end who consistently goes all out on every snap and has the playing speed to chase down running plays in pursuit. Despite his lack of size, he is stronger than expected and if he bulks up by adding 10-15 additional pounds, he will be very strong at the point of attack. Overall, Haralson is no doubt going to need to bulk up and become more consistent in his get-off at the snap, but weight can be added and he will become a good all-around defensive end for a team that plays a 4-3 defense. As a rookie, he will be a backup who will contribute mostly as a pass rusher and on special teams, but in his second or third season, he will become a good starting defensive end. Additionally, if Haralson goes to a team that plays the 3-4 defense, he will make an immediate impact rushing the quarterback and will become a dangerous starting rush linebacker within a season.

He doesn’t want a “complement” to Ware, he wants as many Demarcus Wares as he can get his hands on.
Makes total sense to me... A 6-4, 260lb guy who can beat tackles and chase down running backs? I'd take four of those for my 34 LBs. ;)

I get what you're saying, but the question is, is there another Ware in this draft... Or if Lawson is that guy, will he be available when we pick. I doubt it.

Some people have been saying this for awhile now, but still some seem to think we need a 4-3 SLB at our 3-4 LOLB position.

Parcells said over and over again in press conferences that the team doesn't put consistant enough pressure on the QB to be called a great defense. A lot of fans still cling to 4-3 concepts, and they don't apply. If he really wanted a "complement" to Ware, wouldn't they have put more effort into resigning Fujita?

Why would you re-sign a guy who bit on any movement, ran himself out of the play, could not fend off the blockers after putting himself in that hole?

That's not a complement, that's an insult.

The argument isn't which can rush the passer better, it is which is more ready to step in now. We are in win it now mode, and Carpenter is the more complete LB from day one.

Lawson has more upside, but greater bust potential too.

Bob Sturm was just on KTCK, and he said he talked to a Cowboys Scout and he said Parcells wants an up the field pass rusher from the LB spot. He doesn’t want a “complement” to Ware, he wants as many Demarcus Wares as he can get his hands on. He wants to relentlessly attack opposing QB’s.

He went on to say that Carpenter doesn't really seem to be that type in his opinion. He gets the feeling they like Lawson alot.

2 pass rushing OLB's in the 3-4 worked for Pittsburgh, why not us???

A pick of Wimbley or Lawson will turn Roy and company into the best pass coverage secondary in the NFL.
:hammer:
Exactly!
You won't see Santana Moss getting 50 yards downfield with Ware, Spears, Canty and Lawson/Wimbley obliterating Brunell.

Yeah, Zimmy has never been one to blitz.

he blitzes some, its just that they are predictable and easily blocked too often

he is one of the least creative defensive coordinators ever IMO

By the way, any reports of a scout being fired at VR yet?

You people forgetting what time of year it is? It's the time of misinformation.

Am I the only one that finds it a bit fishy that a dallas scout just happens to come out and talk to KTCK just two days before the draft, telling them exactly what type of player they're looking for?

What's it going to be then, eh?

I think all of you are overstating this.

Pittsburgh doesn't have two "pass rushing" linebackers these days.

Joey Porter is the rusher. Carlos Emmons was the jack of all trades who could blitz, but his forte is coverage. Then they plugged in Clark Haggans, who is the same type of player.

No. I was thinking exactly the same thing when I saw this thread.
Smokescreen for picking Carpenter or trading down?

Alexander, please leave the facts out of this thread. Facts have no place here!

Seriously though, this is all a smokescreen. Either to make teams think we're interested when we really aren't, or to make teams think we're trying to look like we're interested so they'll think we aren't, but we really are.

Any, and I mean ANY, kind of info coming out of any organization the next two days speaking about specific players or specific traits in players is all disinformation right now.

That said, the scout says he wants as many DeMarcus Ware's he can get his hands on. Who says that describes Lawson? ;)

Saturday can't get here soon enough. We're probably gonna end up taking a freakin' WR.

It is a little late for smokescreens for Carpenter.

It has been plastered on the DMN that we are considering him. A minor "story" like this wouldn;t deter anyone.

Either. Both. Could be a reverse psychology smokescreen for takign Lawson.

Maybe it was a smokescreen to talk about LBs, when we're really gonna draft something else entirely.
