Sure just take a QB at 16 and ignore that d-line.. awesome job.

Well, did you consider that 32-year old Romo has had 2 back surgeries within a year and is not a lock to be available when camp begins? Hopefully, he will be but that is still an uncertainty at this time. And did you consider that Orton might retire?

Now, how is that DL you took in the draft going to help if Orton retires and Romo gets injured or is not ready to start the season? And if Romo's back is finished, it would be nice to have a franchise QB waiting as opposed to a DL who may or may not be anything special. Not saying Manziel is a lock but he has more star potential than a DL at 16 in the 1st round.

jerry and lacewell have their drinking buddy in manziel.

manziel and jones are cut from the same cloth. anybody who has heard manziel speak can see why jerry is attracted to him. he has a cockiness and swagger that jerry loves and is lacking romo.

I agree here.

Romo always tries to say the right thing..

..but the team doesn't follow it up with their play.

I wish Romo was a little more edgy..

..look at Kapernick..

...mugging for the cameras, curling his biceps..

..that team follows his actions..not his well chosen words like Romo.

we need a younger leader on offense.

Romo has been with the team about 10 years now.

One playoff victory does not a legacy make.

Romo has been a decent stop-gap player with minimal investment over the years for the team..

..but the NFL no longer allows you to take 10 years at the position to succeed.

Only Jerrah would do this.

A great Defense and a decent but not great QB...seemed to work for the Seahawks...just a different way to view it.

Well, for those who think this, then they should consider that Garrett would not only be a lame duck but he would also be a sitting duck. There is no way he can win without a solid draft.

Frankly..

what I think is about to happen this season is if the team even plays well at all..

by mid-season you will see a 5 year extension with Garrett.

This would be like when Tex Schramm extended Landry for 10 years..

..just to silence all the critics back then.

The team was struggling to win in the playoffs and Landry's Flex defense was being talked down..

Not that dissimilar from what is happening now.

Yes, he would take him at 16.
No, Johhny Foosball will not fall to 16. He will fall to 3, behind Clowney and Bortles.

Kapernick is avg with a great defense bottom 10 with romos defense. But atleast he looks tough for his pressers

well if he fell to 16 he should take him. now we all know he wont but if he did he should

I would not be mad if he did but I think JJ would be looking to get a couple 1's for the pick from someone first which would be cool too.

How does that make our team better?
Immediately, no. But if he's a good player and you think he can be Romo's replacement, you do not worry about the short term question like this.

Did Green Bay ask themselves if Rodgers made them better? Even then, would he not be capable of being a backup and saving Orton's salary?

No matter if you like or do not like the player, the question in general of taking a QB is not outlandish in the least.

I know it is hard to grasp the concept of planning for the future, but that is how you can avoid the pitfalls to come with short range narrow thinking where you do not look past the two-three years at most that Romo could possibly offer.

The thing is, if the Cowboys really truly believe Manziel is the one, then they should do what it takes to go get him. Elite quarterbacks are too few and far between.

Except that Garrett sucks, and Landry did not.

Larry Lacewell said:
A guy who can scramble around makes such a huge difference. Ironically, we tried that years ago, and people don't believe this, with Quincy Carter. Quincy Carter was a little bit better than people ever gave him credit for...People forget we went to the playoffs with Quincy. We wanted a scrambler...Jerry would take him definitely...If he could box up all of 'em (draft picks) he'd probably go get him.

I am so glad this imbecile is involved with the franchise and has our GM's ear. What a blessing.

I would not have an issue with taking our future at QB. It would be the first time since he owned the team that he actually valued the position correctly.

And no, I do not count Aikman, who be basically tripped over.

Going all out for the DL is a win now thought. He needs to start thinking outside of his normal year to year routine.

I would not either but I probably would not agree with many that Manziel is our future.

Nope. You play Romo until he doesn't have a throw left in his arm. Then the franchise QB fairy will leave another blue chipper under our pillow.
