LaDanian Tomlinson is...

The only time you can compare players IMO is when said current player retires. If Tomlinson keeps this up for the majority of his career then I would say he would be the best by a very big margin.

I would take Bo Jackson over anyone though.

On Barry Sanders.

If he did not retire he would have gotten 20,000 yards easy I think.

Why do people try to use stats from different eras of football.

Take in to account different rules and playing styles and so fourth that lend to some of the stats.

Stats alone should not get you into the hall of fame 10,000 yards rushing in todays NFL is the not the same 10,000 yards rushing in the 1970's.

Now if you are comparing stats between the same era I get that you are measuring him against his peers in his era.

This thread started with "LT best ever" and I cant hold with that kind of thinking.
I dont think I could vote for a "Best ever NFL RB". Being one of the grizzled old guys on the site (born in 1950), was priviliged enough to see the era of and watch the great Jim Brown, Sayers, Sweetness, Czonka, Floyd Little, OJ, and so forth. Ive never felt the urge to say to myself, "_____ was the best". They all were very very good, great, if you will, and stood out from the crowd. But Jim Brown did have an ingredient few if any others seemed to have had a lot of; raw toughness and supreme, unchallenged confidence that he was better than the man in front of him.
