espn is reporting police want to talk to Collins. Last week a pregnant lady was murdered. Supposedly she is an ex girlfriend of Collins. They aren't saying he is a suspect but if this isn't completely cleared up by draft day, doesn't teams avoid him like the plague. Especially after Aaron Hernandez.

I don't see it affecting his draft stock and doubt he slips. But should he?

Was she pregnant with his child? Leaves a lot of doubt for a guy who is supposed to be a top 20 pick.

You think he will now fall to the 27th pick now? ;)

I'm sure teams are digging into this as we type. Whether it's an issue or not, I could definitely see some teams shying away from him. Especially in the top of the 1st Rd. Fair or not I could definitely see him dropping in the draft due to the timing.

Not sure if it's the times, but I can't recall seeing this much weird stuff pop up about prospects from the combine on out. Randy Gregory, Shane Ray, now La'el Collins. Very strange. It will be very interesting to see how this shakes up the first round tomorrow.

La’el Collins’ draft stock in question after ex-girlfriend’s murder
By Bart Hubbuch

CHICAGO — The timing couldn’t be worse for La’el Collins.
Just two days before he was expected to be a first-round pick in the NFL Draft, the LSU offensive tackle was rocked by news that police in Baton Rouge, La., want to talk to him about the murder of a former girlfriend.
According to multiple outlets, police said Collins isn’t considered a suspect in the shooting death last Friday of Brittany Mills, 29, who was pregnant and delivered a boy that lived.
Police told the NFL Network they want to establish if Collins — who the network said hadn’t had contact with Mills since September — is the father of the child, while ESPN reported investigators want to see if Collins “can provide them with information.” seems sure to hurt the 6-foot-5, 305-pound lineman’s stock in this post-Aaron Hernandez era.

Just crazy.

They said he is not a suspect and had not had contact with her since September. I guess it's possible that they could say he is not a suspect even if he really is a suspect, but it seems unlikely.

There is a slight possibility that Dallas could have Gregory, Ray and Collins available at 27 and a very tough decision to make.

I cannot say that is exactly a great thing. A lot of risk.

Ray, to me, is an easy pass. Not a scheme fit, and really doesn't have the frame to add more weight. As a 4-3 end in the NFL, he would get destroyed in the run game down after down. This is before we even speak about the judgment issues with regards to his arrest this week.

Gregory is also an easy pass. Failing a drug test at the combine, in addition to failing multiple other tests at the combine points to rare stupidity or a real drug problem. No thanks.

Collins, it remains to be seen what his involvement is in the murder. At this time, they are saying none. FWIW, I actually feel that he's the safest pick, and if the law enforcement contacts clear him, then I would have no problem with taking him.

You can be sure that each team's braintrust will be doing a lot of follow up work on all three guys today.

I just do not think there is enough time to properly find out what the deal is with Collins. If he is there, it is tough. I would probably pass on him also.

But it is so tempting.

It would be very hard, no question. I doubt that you could get Les Miles to stop eating grass long enough to get a coherent answer.

Law enforcement contacts are critical with this one. If it turns out that Collins is the father of the child here, it gets a lot more complicated.

I cannot recall this much weird stuff with multiple players popping up this close to the draft. It's insane.

This year has given me a lot of material for my upcoming book "Confessions of a Draft Stock Hitman"

That is some site, writer, editor...using a suggestive over the top title for click bait and when you get into the article it pretty much says that he is not a suspect. But you gotta be hooked in by the title to click on the article first and that is a win for the site(s)

Well, it appears he is doing the right thing and turning down the invite to Chicago to submit to a paternity test. That should help him out a little.
