I've been reading posts since preseason saying he's not a speedster. If true, how is he the deep threat? Maybe he's the guy who's gonna tell all of Jerry's secrets, and Lamb actually said "Deep Throat"?

He officially ran a 4.54 at the combine. Draftscout has another time on him as 4.46 and whether it's an estimate or not 4.44 as his low. He reportedly ran a 4.50 at his proday. But regardless a 40 time only tells you what they run 40 yards in shorts. Some players are just faster on a field in pads and running farther than 40 yards. Some have build up speed. He got deep a lot at OK St. but in Pittsburgh Ben could no longer throw the ball deep.

James Washinton not even alive at this point, dude's been MIA. They probably got some dude from the practice squad named Freddy Jackson to wear his jersey. Wasn't he only supposed to be out 10 weeks...and that was a month before the season?

Okay slow down (pun intended) there big fella .. Nobody is faster in pads than they are in shorts.. But it's definitely true that the pads slow some guys down more than others. There is no real explanation for it, but its an absolute truism. Washington is probably one of those guys who doesn't get hit top speed as quickly as some others. forget those combine times.. Dude can run..

Faster than other players when they all have pads on.

Jerry Rice ran either a 4.6 or 4.7.

Speed isn’t the only trait that can get you deep. Washington was a master of getting behind defenses in college. It was never his speed. Hopefully he will add that dimension for us

Lmao he’s always been a deep threat, that’s why he didn’t work in Pittsburgh because Ben could not get the ball to him and he’s not the short area route runner that JuJu, AB, and Dionte Johnson were.

He’s sort of a one trick pony, but that trick is getting downfield. If I had a nickel for every thread started about us needing a deep threat with 4.3 speed I’d be rich. People get stuck on 40 times and forget that game speed and leverage exist.

Washington ran in the mid-4.5’s so those who didn’t watch him play in Pittsburgh assumed he wasn’t a deep threat. Tape says otherwise.
