Lance Dunbar's injury may be "career threatening"

According to Dr. David Chao, who was the Chargers team physician for 17 years.

"The Dallas running back was just beginning to emerge as a force, but now needs season-ending surgery. Dunbar suffered a contact hyperextension injury that tore ligaments including the posterolateral corner. Unfortunately, this type of injury can be considered career threatening. Pro Bowl linebacker Shawne Merriman returned to action from such an injury, but was never the same after.

Good luck to Dunbar in his surgery and rehab. The Cowboys have a top medical staff, so his chances are improved."

Oh well. Sucks for him, personally.

Not that big of a loss for the franchise.

Believe it or not we do. But the strength/conditioning staff? Seems a bit suspect with all the hammy injuries.

I dont find that hard to believe. Id expect Dallas to have one of the best medical staffs.
Why is that laughable? Do you have any real knowledge of the staff or are you just saying that becuase the Cowboys have been plagued by injuries?

This really sucks for Dunbar. Wish him the best.

The Cowboys medical staff nearly ruined Ratliff's career, haven't you heard? Now the Chicago Bear's medical staff, now THAT'S quality. They were able to fix Ratliff's season-long health issues in about a week. Miracle workers, I tell ya.

This is 100x more devastating to Dunbar personally than it is to the Cowboys organization.

Can you imagine what it must feel like to come off a career game, things really start looking up for you, only to have a likely career-ending injury? After all the hard work I'm sure this young man has put in to get to where he is... truly a disappointing turn of events on a personal level for him. I really hope he's able to bounce back from this.

Injuries but I figured they meant the whole medical staff. Like strength and conditioning too

'Boys medical staff is tops. They don't prevent injuries. That's up to the strength & conditioning staff.

And we have definitely taken a chance on players with known injury histories before we signed them. In the hierarchy of evaluation science, we possibly should give more weight to durability.

various:
no offense to Dunbar and god speed to him but he hasn't even had a career to lose.
he's basically gotten a cup of coffee at the NFL level.

when the hit happened i knew he tore a ligament. knees don't fold sideways without damage.

hard to blame this injury on medial or S&C.

but the 1000 pulled hammies? that's certainly an area we could focus on in training and rehabbing.
definitely need a lot more stretching of hammies if they keep tearing.
better off losing .05 off the 40 time but staying in games.
