Me handsome lads, let us take a short trip down memory lane with the non-talent Trey Lance.

It was actually this past week that the entitled child Lance learned he'd be a No. 3.
So what happened? Or at least this is the narrative put out in the feel-good report by Shanahan and GM John Lynch.

1. Lance was "devastated" when told he was tired strong talent
2. Lance was "classy."
3. Lance's demotion was a "gut punch," said GM Lynch. (In other words, Lance would be a pouty, unhappy camper in San Francisco.)
4. The classy Lance was distraught enough to miss Wednesday's practice. (What true professional does tha?!)
5. Apparently, the way to handle the fragile Lance is to baby him with honorifics such as "class" and having a "work ethic" as quoted by Lynch.

And Lance has said he wanted to land on a team where he, the golden child, could be the No. 2 backup.

Blimey, ruffians and astute lovers of the pig iron --- do we already have a backup QB controversy?
If not, Mr. North Dakota Bison, what is the diff of being No.3 in San Francisco to being No.3 in Frisco, Texas? Huh?

Yes, Lance is cheap. No, his talents are not NFL quality. Yes, he now has a fresh start. No, you don't just waltz In as a No. 2.

Class? Yes, Grier has class that Lance perhaps doesn't have.
Devastated? Yes, his taking up a roster spot is a gut punch to astute fans.

The project called Trey Lance is an unnecessary transaction in the name of getting something on the cheap.

I hardly expected Jerald to go to Goodwill for our roster needs.
The other 31 teams knew better.
Is Lance worth anything now? No.
Could Lance be worth anything ever? Possibly.
Was he expensive? No.
Would there be criticism for any team other than Dallas that gave up a fourth for his tiny salary? Probably not.

I suspect they envisioned a possibleTraysom Hill kind of thing. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, ya know?

Does he have tools or talent? There is a difference.

I’m sure SF wanted him to practice so he could possibly get hurt since they were going to try and trade him. That’s what winning organizations would do.

‘pig iron’…? Do you maybe mean the ‘gridiron’ - ala the football field, the venue for all things football-ish.
Still… your post was mucho entertaining. Well done, Sport.

So we just traded a 4th and agreed to take on nearly $7 million in salary for Will Grier's replacement? For a guy who could not beat out the well traveled and draft bust Sam Darnold for the backup job for the 49er? For a guy who lost the number 3 job to someone named Brandon Allen? Really? Seriously?

The 49ers are currently a pretty well managed and coached organization. They are not the Browns or the Lions. They seem to know what they are doing. They evidently had little hope for QB Lance.

Could the offseason and training camp raised questions for the Cowboy brass about the abilities of Prescott and/or Rush? At this time of year you make trades to address such concerns. But I doubt it. I think Prescott and Rush are the guys for at least the next two years unless Lance has a total reawakening in Dallas.

Could this be a headline maker move on the part of Jones and Son? Those two dudes love the headlines. They love their press.

At this point I would rather have the 4th and the money. Time will tell. I hope for the best for Lance since I am a Cowboy fan.

Yall are not looking at the big picture. Unless Dak gets us to the superbowl this year IMO he is gone at the end of the season.
I don't even think this is possible under the cap. Even if they wanted to do it.

Then why was he not only a 1st rounder, he was a very high 1st rounder?
Yes, I don't get that either. This guy is a complete bum all of a sudden by many peoples thinking on here. What happened? The Niners, God how I hate them, have been one of the best teams the last few years. One of the few with Super Bowl chances every year lately. Didn't they have him as their number 1 QB going in to the season last year and then he got injured and out for the year? You mean they pushed Garoppolo out for a complete dud? A good organization like that?
