I’ll say this about this trade . Jerry was bidding agsinst himself. I read no team in the NFL was willing to give a 4 not even close .

Basically in a 2 yr career he’s had 2 season ending injuries .

The others were offering a 5th. So how do you beat a 5th? I let you do the math on that one.

Like I said offer the 49ers a fifth not a 4
. Do the math Roy . And take it or leave it . That’s the message Jerry didn’t bring to the poker table .

Lance is definitely in a unique situation.

In general, QBs develop in about 2 years. By year 3, you know if a guy's got it or if he doesn't. There's a few Carson Wentzes who fall off a cliff after a hot start, or Geno Smith type late bloomers, but QBs tend to have a shorter development curve than fans think.

On paper, Lance has had his 3 years. But as far as game action? He's made like 2 NFL starts. So which one really counts for that "2 years of experience" thing? I haven't studied it in-depth, but I'm tempted to say game action.

Geno Smith was drafted by the Jets . No one works out for them . The latest Darnold & Wilson . Smith lucky to be far removed .

Me handsome lads, let us take a short trip down memory lane with the non-talent Trey Lance.

It was actually this past week that the entitled child Lance learned he'd be a No. 3.
So what happened? Or at least this is the narrative put out in the feel-good report by Shanahan and GM John Lynch.

1. Lance was "devastated" when told he was tired strong talent
2. Lance was "classy."
3. Lance's demotion was a "gut punch," said GM Lynch. (In other words, Lance would be a pouty, unhappy camper in San Francisco.)
4. The classy Lance was distraught enough to miss Wednesday's practice. (What true professional does tha?!)
5. Apparently, the way to handle the fragile Lance is to baby him with honorifics such as "class" and having a "work ethic" as quoted by Lynch.

And Lance has said he wanted to land on a team where he, the golden child, could be the No. 2 backup.

Blimey, ruffians and astute lovers of the pig iron --- do we already have a backup QB controversy?
If not, Mr. North Dakota Bison, what is the diff of being No.3 in San Francisco to being No.3 in Frisco, Texas? Huh?

Yes, Lance is cheap. No, his talents are not NFL quality. Yes, he now has a fresh start. No, you don't just waltz In as a No. 2.

Class? Yes, Grier has class that Lance perhaps doesn't have.
Devastated? Yes, his taking up a roster spot is a gut punch to astute fans.

The project called Trey Lance is an unnecessary transaction in the name of getting something on the cheap.

I hardly expected Jerald to go to Goodwill for our roster needs.
The other 31 teams knew better.
He has no lack of talent. He had a lack of knowing how to play the position which is expectable for a guy who played one season of college ball in a system and conference that isn’t that strong

Justin Fields was the pick . Big Conf . Produced . Jets & Niners overthought this . I’m probably not looking at ND St for QB’s.
Chicago should see something yr three now that they’ve given Fields some tools.

Heck they hung 29 on Dallas last yr in a shootout .

Of course.

That’s why he was a top 3 pick in the draft.

Dak’s got a lot more skill but Dak also played 4 years of SEC football and stepped into a optimal situation as a rookie.

Lance has barely played any football. From Highschool till now.

He may never develop but Dallas acquired a bigtime talent that’s 23 years old for nothing.

This shouldn’t be a hard thing to figure out.
A big time talent who couldn’t beat out Sam Darnold for the #3 QB position? Where’s this big time talent? Have you ever seen the 3rd pick in the entire draft not even good enough to be 3rd string? Just look up biggest busts in the NFL draft.

Maybe, govnor, those fans take their cues from what the 49ers management saw or didn't see.
I don't mind projects but tha is why god invented the practice squad, and the 49ers will pay him regardless.

6 teams were in on Lance. Going from 3rd over all to a practice squad player doesn't happen in 2 years and 4 starts. His tool chest prevents that, regardless of how much coaching/development he may need.

Well, yes, handsome lad, he will get better because he can't possibly get worse.
Me biggest complaint is tha he is taking up a valuable roster spot.
QB is the most valuable position in football and he’s a top talent.

The Cowboys have a top 3 roster in the NFL and nobody is confident because our QB is a little better than mediocre.

You so disappoint me.
Your ma and I picked coal along the train tracks and clipped coupons from the Western Auto catalogue to send you to Stephen Austin Gymnastics and Barber School. Your sis married tha Ted Nugent lookalike so you could have a fancy bathtub on weekends and you threw it all away. Sod!
