Since you're always criticizing Dak and labeling him as lacking talent...

So the serious bust job named Trey Lance has talent compared to Dak?
Of course.

That’s why he was a top 3 pick in the draft.

Dak’s got a lot more skill but Dak also played 4 years of SEC football and stepped into a optimal situation as a rookie.

Lance has barely played any football. From Highschool till now.

He may never develop but Dallas acquired a bigtime talent that’s 23 years old for nothing.

This shouldn’t be a hard thing to figure out.

You forgot to mention how Lance will be required to occupy a roster spot on the 53 man roster. You think that's a good move, especially if you could use that extra roster spot for either an extra Olineman, TE, RB/FB, LB or DT? Plus, if Lance doesn't develop this year to even be able to supplant Cooper Rush, you're ok with losing a crucial 4th round draft pick?

For some reason on this forum, tons of people have decided this guy is a total dud - not sure why. Didn't one of the best teams of the last few years have him slated to be their number 1 QB then he got hurt. Then Purdy took full advantage of his opportunity to secure the job and leapfrog Lance. Did I miss something?

Me handsome lads, let us take a short trip down memory lane with the non-talent Trey Lance.

It was actually this past week that the entitled child Lance learned he'd be a No. 3.
So what happened? Or at least this is the narrative put out in the feel-good report by Shanahan and GM John Lynch.

1. Lance was "devastated" when told he was tired strong talent
2. Lance was "classy."
3. Lance's demotion was a "gut punch," said GM Lynch. (In other words, Lance would be a pouty, unhappy camper in San Francisco.)
4. The classy Lance was distraught enough to miss Wednesday's practice. (What true professional does tha?!)
5. Apparently, the way to handle the fragile Lance is to baby him with honorifics such as "class" and having a "work ethic" as quoted by Lynch.

And Lance has said he wanted to land on a team where he, the golden child, could be the No. 2 backup.

Blimey, ruffians and astute lovers of the pig iron --- do we already have a backup QB controversy?
If not, Mr. North Dakota Bison, what is the diff of being No.3 in San Francisco to being No.3 in Frisco, Texas? Huh?

Yes, Lance is cheap. No, his talents are not NFL quality. Yes, he now has a fresh start. No, you don't just waltz In as a No. 2.

Class? Yes, Grier has class that Lance perhaps doesn't have.
Devastated? Yes, his taking up a roster spot is a gut punch to astute fans.

The project called Trey Lance is an unnecessary transaction in the name of getting something on the cheap.

I hardly expected Jerald to go to Goodwill for our roster needs.
The other 31 teams knew better.
Why is he an “entitled child”? Is this just you, being you, piling on the drama?

It’s kind of crappy for you to try to apply labels to a young player who we don’t know, and has, from all accounts, been professional in dealing with an extremely challenging set of circumstances.

But, feel free to stay with your schtick. Your misuse of the term “pig iron” is one in an endless stream of examples, where your use misappropriated language to perpetuate your identity.

Your “brand” here at the zone has always been your primary motivator.

Do better

It’s how this forum works. Lots of people who hate everything the team does.

Me Queen, do you lose sleep over me?
You seem so ... so involved ... nay ... obsessed with this lad.
It's OK. Rage lessens. Unless you stoke it.
Take a break from me, Me Queen, and be a good biddy.

Trey Lance has a ton of talent. He has a strong arm and can run the ball. I don't like the trade to be honest. But the talent is there for sure. If he can put it all together we might have something.

Gawd. This really has become a Cowboys fanboi board.

This was a horrible signing. How many top 5 draft pick QBs that have been cut by the team that drafted them have EVER gone on to do anything?

So the same team that managed to salvage the last pick of the draft last year into a starting QB has now completely given up on their top 3 draft pick. And Jerry swoops in and now thinks what? Sounds like he didnt even consult with MM. Is Jer personally gonna transform this guy into a player?

What a freaking joke Jethro is.

And yes Gimme, this year it is about that roster spot.

I swear, Jerry is trying his damndest to keep us out of a super bowl.

If having a development QB as the *very last roster spot* is an issue for some folks, I don’t want to *ever* hear about how the team isn’t trying to provide options to Dak.

Just don’t do it

Don’t complain about how we don’t event try.

That is, unless, you are one of those people who think that NFL GMs can just take their cup of coffee and stroll down to the Mahomes-Berry bush and pluck one off like it’s nothing.

I don't really get the argument that the 49ers know that they are doing and therefore people are upset at the trade. You guys are living in LALA land.

The 49ers, like all teams, sometimes lack putting people in the most optimal environments and using them to the best of their abilites. Every team does this. You can look at their first round picks from previous years to know this. You can also look at Brandon Aiyuk two years ago, who regressed poorly and people were wondering if he should have even been a first round pick. Now people talk about him as a top 20-30 reciever.

They lucked into Purdy, but that was clearly luck. No way they thought he was going to be nearly as good as he is- if they did, he would have played from the beginning. They gave him playing time, and he did very well.

What they havent done is give Trey Lance any playing time. He has 4 Career starts. 2 are good, 1 is okay. 1 is bad. 1 happened in the first game of the season last year, in a borderline flood, I mean you could see water pop up when the players ran. It was drenched. He also played these games with no Christian McCaffery, and an offense that made him into a running back.

Its a great trade

Roger Staubach was going to ask for a trade in 1971 if Tom Landry had chosen Craig Morton to be the starter over Roger.

History has proven that Roger would have been justified in doing so.

History has also proven that Bret Favre and Steve Young were traded in favor of QB's that never came close to their achievements. There is nothing wrong with having confidence in your own abilities to the point you believe you have been unfairly evaluated.

I agree.
Every roster spot is sacred and assures s player of eating well for at least a year. To take up a spot as a project/developmental chap seems amateurish.
As long as Jerald can crow about getting a cheap deal.
