For some reason on this forum, tons of people have decided this guy is a total dud - not sure why.
Maybe, govnor, those fans take their cues from what the 49ers management saw or didn't see.
I don't mind projects but tha is why god invented the practice squad, and the 49ers will pay him regardless.

How many top 5 draft pick QBs that have been cut by the team that drafted them have EVER gone on to do anything?
I don't know (and frankly don't care) and I fail to see how this is relevant to the Cowboys situation for several reasons. The primary one is Lance wasn't cut he was traded.

SF fault here. They gave him the starting role he did not deserve over Jimmy G last year and set unreasonable expectations in doing so. And then that same player is relegated to 3rd string in the next preseason…..

Poor job by SF

‘pig iron’…? Do you maybe mean the ‘gridiron’ - ala the football field, the venue for all things football-ish.
Still… your post was mucho entertaining. Well done, Sport.
I have to agree. I do not agree with his opinion but the manner in which he delivered his opinion was entertaining and fun to read.

Well it has taken Jordan Love 4 years to make it to the show, after sitting back and learning. This trade was not done with urgency, so I fail to see what the downside is? Clearly he is not close to ready, but in 2 years time? Sheesh, you guys are too much. What will be if all these top QB's from last years fail? The 9ers will fail with the drafting of Lance and the load they had to give up to draft him. If Lance turns out to be a dud, so be it we have a couple of years to see for ourselves

I'm beginning to think this trade for Lance is Jerry's version of a cheap bargaining chip to pressure Dak into a team friendly contract. Lance may be talented but he hasn't shown anything at all in the NFL. If Anything Jerry should of brought in Darnold when he was available. He at least showed he can play when he took Carolina on that winning streak a few years ago.

Me handsome lads, let us take a short trip down memory lane with the non-talent Trey Lance.

It was actually this past week that the entitled child Lance learned he'd be a No. 3.
So what happened? Or at least this is the narrative put out in the feel-good report by Shanahan and GM John Lynch.

1. Lance was "devastated" when told he was tired strong talent
2. Lance was "classy."
3. Lance's demotion was a "gut punch," said GM Lynch. (In other words, Lance would be a pouty, unhappy camper in San Francisco.)
4. The classy Lance was distraught enough to miss Wednesday's practice. (What true professional does tha?!)
5. Apparently, the way to handle the fragile Lance is to baby him with honorifics such as "class" and having a "work ethic" as quoted by Lynch.

And Lance has said he wanted to land on a team where he, the golden child, could be the No. 2 backup.

Blimey, ruffians and astute lovers of the pig iron --- do we already have a backup QB controversy?
If not, Mr. North Dakota Bison, what is the diff of being No.3 in San Francisco to being No.3 in Frisco, Texas? Huh?

Yes, Lance is cheap. No, his talents are not NFL quality. Yes, he now has a fresh start. No, you don't just waltz In as a No. 2.

Class? Yes, Grier has class that Lance perhaps doesn't have.
Devastated? Yes, his taking up a roster spot is a gut punch to astute fans.

The project called Trey Lance is an unnecessary transaction in the name of getting something on the cheap.

I hardly expected Jerald to go to Goodwill for our roster needs.
The other 31 teams knew better.
Is this satire or are you serious?

At the end of the day we were able to grab a 1st round talent for a 4th round pick. I don’t care what position on the field, you make that trade if it’s available. Don’t forget that other teams were in the mix too. This board is responding as if it was a sure thing Trey would be cut and we could have gotten him for free. A couple teams were in the mix to get him.

I think this trade triggered the “Dak debate”. I like Dak as a person and hope for the best for him on and off the field but overall I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan and anything that can make the team better I am for. This trade is a chance to make the team better at little risk. If Dak wins a Super Bowl this season and Trey never sees the field the rest of his life then I’m happy. If Dak flames out and Trey takes us to the Super Bowl then I am happy.

In the last 20 years my favorite Cowboys have been Romo, Witten, Ware, TNew, Dak, Dez, Martin, Parsons and Diggs.

If we win the Super Bowl this year I’m not going to be thinking about Romo, Witten, Ware, TNew. They’re gone. I’ll be just as happy with Dak winning the Super Bowl as I would have been with Romo. If it’s Trey or some other guy I’ll be just as happy as I would have been with Dak. I just want to win, I’ll adjust my personal bias of any player if they play well enough, or poor enough, to change my opinion. Again, I just want to win.

Dumb post to begin with, and it certainly didn't age very well.

Allegedly, the coach never wanted Lance in SF. The GM did and maybe the owner did. With Jerry not I hope this doesn't put him in the exact same situation he was in previously. He needs time to grow and develop. He hasn't played much and got injured badly before they liked what Purdy brought.

If given the right resources, time and patience. I believe he could be really good.

That is, unless, you are one of those people who think that NFL GMs can just take their cup of coffee and stroll down to the Mahomes-Berry bush and pluck one off like it’s nothing.
Well they could start by drafting one. Where did Purdy get drafted?

Gawd. This really has become a Cowboys fanboi board.

This was a horrible signing. How many top 5 draft pick QBs that have been cut by the team that drafted them have EVER gone on to do anything?

So the same team that managed to salvage the last pick of the draft last year into a starting QB has now completely given up on their top 3 draft pick. And Jerry swoops in and now thinks what? Sounds like he didnt even consult with MM. Is Jer personally gonna transform this guy into a player?

What a freaking joke Jethro is.

And yes Gimme, this year it is about that roster spot.

I swear, Jerry is trying his damndest to keep us out of a super bowl.

Dallas has had 4th round QBs and undrafted Free agents go on to be star players in the NFL.

You don’t think a top 5 pick in the draft with very little experience who is 23 years old can develop more and turn his career around?

The risk reward is worth it.

It’s also ridiculous to think Lance won’t get better. He will. Guaranteed.

John Lynch thought he won the lottery . A team dumb enough to trade a 4 to him for a guy with no future on the SF roster . Thanks Jerry . Lynch even threw in the Uber fare to SFO .

Well, yes, handsome lad, he will get better because he can't possibly get worse.
Me biggest complaint is tha he is taking up a valuable roster spot.

Being #3 in SF is different than being #3 in Dallas.
