Fromm is undersized with no arm strength and poor running the ball. He is no chance to make it at NFL level.
He should be an UDFA after this draft as he is rubbish.
It’s the fourth round. I’m ready to take a backup QB and for a backup QB I want accurate, smart, high character and steady nerves. If Dak doesn’t work out, all of the qualities that make Fromm the perfect backup also make a great fit for McCarthy.
Here is Brugler’s comments this morning. He has Fromm as the best QB remaining
“Scheme specific? Yeah. Limited in areas? No doubt. But in the right situation, Fromm can be an asset to an organization, initially as a backup and an important voice among the quarterbacks. He has starting potential if he lands in an offense that prioritizes quick decisions and rhythm passing.”
Hmm. What Dallas Cowboys coach runs a variation of the West Coast Offense? Specifically the Bill Walsh offense?
Here’s a bit about the requirements of a QB in that offense
“The West Coast offense requires a quarterback who throws extremely accurately, and often blindly, very close to opposing players. In addition, it requires the quarterback to be able to quickly pick the best one of five receivers to throw to, certainly much more quickly than in previously used systems. Often, the quarterback has no time to think about the play and must act robotically, executing the play exactly as instructed by the offensive coordinator, who calls the plays for him.”
Looks like a perfect fit.
Here’s a scouting report from 1979 about a guy who just needed the right scheme. The west coast scheme
“He can thread the needle, but usually goes with his primary receiver and forces the ball to him even when he’s in a crowd. He’s a gutty, gambling, cocky type. Doesn’t have great tools, but could eventually start.”
Was that you back in 1979?
