Lawrence - Not So Much

A little over a year ago "Tank for Tua" was all the rage and not much was being said about Justin Herbert.

Herbert just had the best rookie QB season in NFL history despite being surrounded by bad coaching and bad defense. Meanwhile Tua, despite having both of those things supporting him, struggled mightily.

I know which of them I'd want to have for the next 10 years.

@Rayman70 I saw your headline - Lawrence, not so much - and agreed wholeheartedly.

Demarcus Lawrence, yeah, not so much.
Trevor Lawrence, on the other hand, yeah, much.

Actually no it doesn't but it's supposed to represent the best college player for the year so if a player isn't considered the best that year in college then why should anyone believe all proclamations made about another player on how super he will be in the NFL.

There have been people saying all month that Lawrence is the best player in college football but you can't give him the Heisman.

Winning the Heisman has nothing to do with NFL potential.

You draft players based on potential.

Lawrence ceiling is sky high. He has all the talent in the world and he's put a lot of rare things on display for 3 seasons.

I think Brandt did a really good job for the Cowboys but after Jones bought the Cowboys and gave him his walking papers he didn't land anywhere else. He's now 87 and in a couple months will be 88 and I'm not so sure at this stage in his life if what he says has as much weight as it once had. He also once said that Ricky Williams was the best all around running back in college ever.

This stuff is downright hilarious.

Is the “Dak is the best thing ever” crowd so insecure they’ve now taken to insulting college prospects?
Why bring up Prescott when he didn't?
Why suggest anyone said he was the "best ever" when no one did?

I've always thought Fields was a better pick for me. I don't know what it is about TL

It was obvious that Lawrence's offensive line in their Bowl game with Ohio State put him at a woeful disadvantage vs. O.H.'s pass rush. Other than that, he's generally considered as good as most any QB before him has been. If course, whatever a QB does in college is no guarantee of pro success. As always, it remains to be seen how he might fare, once he competes within the NFL level of play. The leap from college to pro ball is just that challenging.

I agree, toward the end of his run in Dallas they were kind of awful. I'm not taking anything away from his prior brilliance.

He didn't start this thread I did and I was referring to Trevor Lawrence. If you actually read my opening comments you would have figured that out.

With all the talk earlier in the season that the Cowboys should tank to possibly get a crack at Lawrence and all the talk about Lawrence going to be the next great QB, yet with so many people trying to make all their proclamations about Lawrence you would think he would have been an automatic lock for and gotten college football biggest award, the Heisman Trophy. But he didn't. As always, I'll wait and see what a player does in the NFL before making any proclamations.
Lets be real, half the heisman winners never make great nfl player's,most are average at best..so i wouldn't put much stock in it.

all i can say with certainty is that in a few months his financial portfolio will look very different from what it does today.

Ricky Williams was awesome.

This mentality that if someone says something wrong once they lose credibility is ridiculous too. Gil Brandt is awesome at his job and doing something this difficult is bound to have some mistakes along the way.

When Ricky Williams left Texas he very well might have been the best all around back to ever come out of college. Dude was unreal.

The Heisman doesn’t mean much on who will be good in the NFL. Lawrence was out for 2 games this year so that hurt his chances. The guy has taken his team to 2 national championship games in 3 years and won 1. Who knows if he will be good in the NFL. He has the physical to but does he have the mental makeup. The league is litter with qbs picked how who did not make it but also who did. The draft is a crapshoot and all depends on the situation you are put in.

If they don't you can't really hold it against them. It really is a coin flip.

Unless you're Chicago and you move up to draft Trubisky--I mean, that was bad.

I am a UNC fan and watched Trubisky play. He was really not that good but the team had a good year. I could not believe anyone would trade up for him like that. Talk about reaching...

I won't argue with you about whether Lawrence will be great in the NFL or not. We shall see. But, the Heisman means very little in regards to NFL potential. Only 2 Heisman QB's have ever won a Super Bowl and that was a long time ago - Roger Staubach and Jim Plunkett.

Nobody thinks winning the Heisman is the end all be all determining factor in what they will do in the NFL, but it is college ball's highest honor and he didn't get it. Without reposting the list of 43 QB's that were drafted in the 1st round that ended up being labeled as busts, to say and guarantee that any QB, even Lawrence can't and/or won't be a bust you need to share your crystal ball, magic eight ball or ouija board that has guaranteed that. Now I personally think he'll be a good QB, not the second coming of the greatest of all time, but good. I also will refrain from making any really profound proclamations until I see exactly what he does do in the NFL.

That year is how we got to where we are today with the spread offense taking over the NFL.

It's easier than ever for QB's to transition to the Pro's.. Especially if they are mobile.

Yeah, I made a mistake on the person with the opening post.

Yeah, I read your post and realized you were talking about Trevor. I made a joke, a play on the same last names. I’ll be here all week. :)

You probably should have posted it in the draft zone where it belongs.
