Octavien is not that much different in size from a guy like Leonard Litte or James Harrison. Octavien is a MUCH better rusher than Justin Rogers (who is injured anyway).

Octavien is plenty big enough to play as a pass rush specialist.

Doc Oc is perfect for a MLB but way too small for OLB.

Keith Brooking..... 6-2 241
Victor Butler........ 6-2 248
Bobby Carpenter.. 6-2 250
Stephen Hodge.... 6-0 234
Bradie James....... 6-2 245
Steve Octavien... 6-0 238
Justin Rogers....... 6-4 250
Anthony Spencer. 6-3 255
Matt Stewart...... 6-3 239
DeMarcus Ware... 6-4 262
Brandon Williams.. 6-2 254
Jason Williams..... 6-1 238

Carpenter, Rogers, Spencer, Ware, B. Williams, and Butler have good OLB size. Since B. Williams is now out of the picture at OLB I guess it would be Rodgers to take his place, unless they move Bobby for the hundredth time.

Spencer, Butler on one side. Ware, Carp, Rogers on the other. Which leaves us real thin. The other guys are "too light in the pants" as my old coach use to say. To play OLB. Now Im not sure of every one of our LB's positions.

Octavien will be fighting for ILB, Hodge or Stewart will probably get the axe in favor of him.

Ugggh.

Well, he left Tech at 20 years old and is still so young and probably still growing. He (and Dallas) needs to view this as a redshirt year.

Well said, Chief... too bad for him, but if he puts in the work, he'll be much more ready for the NFL come next training camp...

As others have noted, this may well have opened the door for Octavien to make the team... that may not be a bad thing for the Boys...

Jason Williams should be moved to OLB in pass rush situations in my opinion.
The guy is similar to a young James Harrison in my opinion...everytime he blitzes and hits the qb, I see the qb wincing while he is getting up.
Williams made sevaral plays behind the line of scrimmage where he just lit up the qb or forced the safety.
This guy, if given the chance to rush the pocket could be a good role player for us.

Absolutely no way you try to teach this guy OLB in our scheme when he is already swimming trying to learn ILB.

Agreed....the kid is confused as it is, no need to make it worse.

I think for Jason it would be easier at this point of his career to be a rush-linebacker rather than an inside linebacker since he was an OLB at Western Illinois.

Hey, the kid has legit sub 4.5 40 speed. While his future is probably on the inside I can see the benefit of that speed on the outside.

idk about rush-LB, but he could be 3rd blitzer that you're always trying to hide in the 3-4, and could do that just as easily at ILB

Jason Williams and Stephen Hodge were fighting for the same position...nickel inside linebacker...Now Brandon Williams is gone...a guy we were looking for to make plays as a rush linebacker...seems to me Jason Williams has shown up making plays behind the line of scrimmage.
Jason Williams has rare speed for a linebacker...kind of like James Harrison.
And before someone says James Harrison is a pro-bowler...the dude was on the bubble with the Steelers for years before he had a breakout season.
Give this kid a chance to make plays behind the line of scrimmage...either at inside linebacker or outside in obvious passing downs. I think he can help us a lot if we use him right.
