What the Chiefs are facing ...........

Not sure what his point is. According to Over the Cap, the Chiefs project to have $13.7 million in available cap space. Spotrac estimates the Chiefs to have $16.5 million in cap space within the NFL’s Top 51 Rule, in which only the 51 largest cap numbers count toward the team’s salary cap.

To put Kansas City’s figures in perspective, the Miami Dolphins are estimated to have a league-high $93.7 million in available cap space. (Dallas has $73 million.) The Chiefs need a little more than $5 million to sign players in the NFL Draft.

20 Chiefs' players are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents: defensive tackle Chris Jones, defensive end Terrell Suggs, fullback Anthony Sherman, running back LeSean McCoy, defensive tackle Mike Pennel, wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, defensive tackle Xavier Williams, cornerback Kendall Fuller, safety Jordan Lucas, defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, cornerback Bashaud Breeland, linebacker Reggie Ragland, quarterback Matt Moore, guard Stefen Wisniewski, cornerback Morris Claiborne, tight end Blake Bell, running back Spencer Ware, quarterback Chad Henne, linebacker Darron Lee and cornerback Keith Reaser.

Four become exclusive rights free agents: tight end Deon Yelder, guard Andrew Wylie, tight end David Wells and wide receiver Marcus Kemp.

Chris Jones provides the most intrigue considering his 33 sacks over the past four seasons, including a career-high 15 1/5 sacks in 2018. He's estimated in the $16 million range.

Kick the can anybody?

Many are good at saying we only have money for this or that. I get it when talking about contracts of $20 MM/year or more, but when talking about $5-10 MM contracts with a short 1 or 2 year term, do we really know we don't have the cap space for that?

It's never good to go into a season trusting that your rookie WR will do a great job.
You don't want to waste another year because you have a lesser slot receiver than you could have had. I definitely think we need to draft a wr this year, but I'm not letting Cobb go if I can help it. Rookie receivers have to adjust to the speed of the game, the smaller windows, the physicality of DB's, reading NFL defenses, and their fellow WRs and new QB. Especially in Dallas where we don't currently have a proven TE to move the chains and be the QB's security blanket, that falls to the slot receiver. We saw a dropoff from Dak's familiarity with Beasley....now, we have Cobb possibly returning for year 2. That's important.

Fortunately for the Cowboys, this draft is said to be deep with WRs, CBs, and OTs. They should be able to stock up on talent that can contribute this year.
Unfortunately, we desperately need DT, DE, SS, CB....and probably ILB

I would like to see Cobb back. His 828 yards as our 3rd receiver was only 10 fewer than what Dez had his final season with the Cowboys. Cobb had several plays called back including three TDs. You seldom see that many receiving yards from a third receiver when your top two receivers put up over 1000 yards. With his old coach McCarthy taking over increases the odds Cobb will return.

Witten is leaving.

He was pulling $3 mil/yr.

Use it on Cobb.

I think we will hate it if Cobb leaves, Witten is off fishing and Dak is taking sacks trying to keep drives alive.

You keep Cobb, you draft or find a TE in FA and next year draft or sign a FA slot guy.

Or you resign Dez AND PUT HIM IN THE SLOT NOW.

What a concept.

Dez does not need to run alot of deep passes..he uses his body to take short passes upfield..his style of play will be disruptive as he gets open when Dak scrambles or sprints out.

Beasley did these things and was very successful.

Dez and another good TE can win alot of games by themselves.

I know becuz I have seen us do it before.

Man, I really enjoy your posts and they are usually well reasoned and reasonable. I could not disagree more on Dez. The team wouldn’t let Dez run the slot because he was never where he was supposed to be, when he was supposed to be there.

Dez was a horrible route runner. He was not the brightest player. You guys need to let that one go.

Not only has Dez been out of the game for the past two years AND suffered a serious injury, but he sucked his entire last three years he actually played.

If you want Dez to be a cheerleader then that’s fine but you don’t want him anywhere near this roster. He’s a cancer. Cancer always spreads.

This is what I think also. But i do think a usual we have a list of players ranked high picks and if one slips to us in these first 3 rounds we may not be able to pass it up. That likely goes for CB and WR and OL. Maybe even QB. Guessing it will be a mostly Defensive draft.
CB, OL yes. WR, QB no. But this is subject to change depending on how FA is going up to that point. If we get a new deal with Dak or Cooper and tag the other, there is no way we draft a WR or QB... no matter who falls to us.

Let’s say Hubert somehow fell to us in the first round and we had tagged Dak.

It's the risk you take! I don't think Herbert is sliding down to 17. All smoke right now
I don’t believe it either was just picking a player that if they slipped would we grab him instead of the best DT left on the board.

Your hard core. Lol. I just know we have our list like all teams will of the best players in the draft. If a top 5 player on our list slipped to 17 I have a hard time believing JJ don’t pull the trigger.

It matters, you exaggerate on Dak being inaccurate, He has thrown some perfect passes and yes will throw some balls high and behind at times, so do all other QB. I have seen many great catches by other WR digging balls out, making the great catches that are too high and behind them yet you seem to think that all others are pin point accurate with all throws and Dak isn't? that is false.

Lets be honest, Cobb was solid but not much more.. I bet Dez could play that position against third and fourth cb's..

Not only would I pass on Justin Hubert. I think he really will fall past us and be drafted by the Pats with the 19th overall pick. The Cowboys will draft a S with the 17th overall pick.

I have said before that really should be up to McCarthy if he wants to deal with Dez. McCarthy knows Cobb and has said he would like Cobb to return.

Most definitely should be Big Mike's decision! What I said was only an observation.

LOL, more Dez hype. He's a media darling.
All I'm saying is that there were several factors going against Dez his last year in Dallas. #1, the offensive system did him zero favors in terms of putting him into a situation with Dak that favored them both. #2, His motivation wasn't as high and he was losing confidence.

Having said that, with a new system, better coaching and a highly motivated Dez without the inflated paycheck could be a very positive thing. There is a chance that Dez is in great shape, highly motivated and primed for good things. If he gets a tryout that would be awesome, if he fails he fails.

I get that. I think McCarthy has a good comfort zone with Cobb, with Dez there is a certain amount of drama that comes with him. Dez saying he will take a lesser role today vs once the game is underway and he is ranting on the sideline wanting the ball to come to him. A younger Dez you are willing to tolerate some of it an older Dez 2 years removed not so much
