Henry would be a real good FS. BUT my problem there is his age and his record since coming to Dallas as getting injured every year. So if he is out who else is there? Watkins has shown nothing that makes me think he could do anywhere near as good as Hamlin; Brown has shown even less.
So for those saying they are fine with Hamlin leaving I say you are full of it.

It's nice having this problem again. I remember when we were $20 million under the cap because we had so many crappy players.

Now, we have a lot of talent. We should be ok if we continue to draft well.

I would like to see Hamlin get a long term deal. I agree with the posters that say his salary would only be HUGE (relatively speaking) for a year.

We have the makings of a special secondary.

A couple of comments here...

First, Henry hasn't seemed to lose a step yet, so he would be very valuable always getting to look at the cornerback. He is a valid playmaker, and that would show at free safety.

Also, as to injuries, Henry has always been very strong in run support, as a cornerback. At free safety, he would not be as consistently at risk as much in his run support, as he presently is, as he would be farther back from the line of scrimmage. He would probably be much healthier then.

Hamlin should play this year under the franchise tag and if he's worth it lock him up during the middle of the season

If you lock him up in the middle of the season while he's playing under the tag. You lose the franchise tag for the duration of the newly signed contract.

Wait until after the year ends, then have a bidding war if he plays again at a all pro level or sign him before free agency starts if he's willing. If you're to pay all pro money, why not wait 1 more year to see the same level of play from Hamlin?

I am not in agreement with giving him a lucrative long term deal. The CB position on this team is as good as any in the history of this organization. Between Courtney Brown, Pat Watkins, and Anthony Henry we should be able to get enough productivity out of the FS position. Will there be anyone in the NFL with that much money tied up in the Safety position or the secondary for that matter? And this has been done at the expense of what other positions? Our thinnest position on the team (and has been for some time) is the WR position. We don't draft it....we try to get by with ex-QBs, heck we even invest 2nd round picks in TEs...but we just don't address the WR position. Which is why this team could be in trouble right in the middle of the prime years for Romo. We will always be on the free agent merry go round at WR because we have no one in the pipeline capable of being "the man". If we did, they would have been playing by now.

I would much rather lock up Hamlin, lock up Burnett (because he has something no other ILBer on this team has: real speed) and be in positio to extend Tank and Pac. What is eveyone else's feeling in Cowboy nation?
Other that the WR concern, I don't get your logic, and thankfully don't have to.

And I (don't) hate to rain on your parade, but those two statements in red seem diametrically opposed to each other. I've been under the impression you DON'T want to lock up Hamlin. How do you propose to do it if not with a lucrative deal? By hypnotizing him into believing that a long-term lowball offer is somehow preferable? I suspect if that were effective, the hypnosis would affect his play as well.

The part highlighted I'm not to sure about. It might still affect the tag status for future use, ??? You might have to wait until free agency.

I don't know if I have said this to you, or if anyone has, but that font really hurts my eyes. Literally I almost always gloss over your posts lately for that reason alone.

I read that whole post and ended up with a headache.

Not playing it up, its really that bad for me to read.

I would actually second that notion.
