is sunk. And that is if Roy is even who we think he is. Miles Austin is the next great Wr and he only has 18 catches in 3 years. Hell Brandon Marshall was a 4th rd pick the same year as Austin and he had 18 catches in 1 game last year.

Some of you will say yea but he hasn't been givin the chance. He's getting a chance everyday in practice to beat out a 7th rd pick that was a QB in college and made it to where the coaches couldn't keep him off the field.

At some point Miles' potential has to turn into production. This is year 4.

Are we gonna put all our eggs into the "potential" basket of Miles, Hurd and Stanback?

I for 1 would like to see a vet WR brought in. If these guys can't beat him out then so be it.

What if Roy and Miles both get dinged and miss some time. You want to see Crayton and Hurd at 1 and 2?

I think Miles has alot of potetial but bringing in a vet for some insurance wouldn't hurt my feelings any.

I feel a lot safer about losing Roy to injury, than having Roy and TO and losing Tony to injury.

Injuries happen. It's life.

If Reggie Wayne gets injured, the Colts are screwed. If Santonio Holmes gets injured the Steelers are screwed. If Andre Johnson gets injured the Texans are screwed. If Marques Colston gets injured the Saints are screwed..

See a pattern....?

well Romo kept Owens out of harm so hopefully he will do the same for Roy. you rarely see our receivers get jacked up save for that Witten hit against the Bengals. but Witten is as tough as they come so it's all good.

Sure I see a pattern. Thing is I don't give a damn about those other teams and I don't want us to end up being the ones that are screwed.

And Marques Colston did get hurt and had 3 catches going into week 8. Oh yea - Brees almost set the passing record.

Miles, Hurd and Stanback have combined for 44 catches in 8 seasons. There are some decent vet WR's on the market. I would like to see them bring one in to light a fire under someone's rear.

with the two tightends we have, we aren't nearly as thin at WR as it seems. Not to mention all of our RBs are decent catching the ball too.

I am not worried at all.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I totally respect that. But this post is dead on and I don't know how it hasn't received any positive responses up until now. It speaks of the reality at this position on our team and yeah you can say various things like:

"Well, almost all the other teams in the league could say the same thing if their #1 WR went down.

- We're the Dallas Cowboys and we're not just any other team. Besides, take the Giants who won the SB prior to last year and were so 1 dimensional on offense after Plax wasn't playing they just stopped winning.

"Well, I feel safer having RW go down with TR throwing to to PC and MA than if T.O and RW were here and TR injured.

- Yeah but we're not talking about the QB and we can't help if TR gets injured but can help getting some reliable WR depth.

" Well, you underestimate Crayton IMO".

- So you'd be comfortable with PC or MA being our #1 WR and still believe we could win a SB? Not saying RW is the key to the SB, a whole team effort will be. But that effort consists of a threat at ever facet of every position on both sides of the ball and stable ST's. We would not have a respected, proven reliable threat if RW goes down and we don't know if we even have one with him healthy, eventhough I like his skills.

" Well, our 2 TE's and RB's can catch balls and I'm not at all worried because of that".

- OK, so who stretches the field somewhat vertically? The TE's are mostly catching and that means they aren't blocking much and that means we aren't running much at all again. Not that we would be able to with 8 man fronts stacked against us since we'd have nothing vertically to force them otherwise.

"well, Miles Austin is going to have a break out year".

- I so HOPE so. I rather have some know than a lot of HOPE. I got more Hope than some know.

Anyways, nice post by the OP and it's something I have been sweating all off season myself for the various reasons. It's good to be positive but realistic gets more results. I appreciate the realistic questions the OP expressed.

how is it realistic to say one guy, let alone one receiver dictates our season?

That's about as unrealistic as it gets.

entire point of the OP was that if Roy Williams goes down our season is sunk because we don't have anyone to pick up the slack.

That means our entire season is dependent on Roy Williams, WR.

not sure what post you read.

Nobody said that. Getting some reliable vet depth in here is something our team can control. BTW - which one of those 2 in your avatar are you?

You appear to have a severe case of Dan Snyder Syndrome, which is characterized by the unshakable belief that veterans, particularly name veterans, are the solution to any team's problems...

Did I say a name vet. No. Maybe someone with alittle more experience that can actually stay healthy.

Miles Austin hasn't had the ball thrown to him enough to compare him to Brandon Marshall, that's a weak argument bro.

It means more double teams on Witten. More 8 man fronts against the run. More time Romo has to stand in the pocket to wait for these young guys to get seperation.

I'm not suggesting we trade for Boldin. The Pats had Randy Moss and Welker but did that stop from bringing in Joey Galloway and Greg Lewis and drafting Brandon Tate. Their just hedging their bets. Something I wouldn't mind doing.
