The last time I saw a message board poster use the phrase "reality-based" community, it was will, creator of the Quincy Carter Bandwagon bumper stickers, over on the Cowboys' newsgroup...

He was one of my favorite posters over there, possessed of a puckish sense of humor, then all of a sudden he turned totally humorless on us... it was sad to watch...

Silverbear I said it much earlier in this thread, it is pointless to argue with these people, you are getting into a battle of wits with unarmed men. bbgun and Super5xCow, and STS the thing is many agree with you to a degree but like todays political climate you are to far out on the fringes, either people agree with you 100% or they disagree with you 100% and unfortunately for you it isn't like that. When you realize that you will see talking til you are blue in the face just will get you on a ignore list.

The thing you don't understand is I find baiting trolls to be FUN...

Some think if you don't indulge them, they'll just go away, but I know better... OTOH, from time to time a determined effort can wear one of the PITA's down, and they go away... I've seen it happen, I've caused it to happen...

And in the meantime, I get to fully express an opposing opinion, in effect speaking for those who might think like I do... in that sense, I'm just engaging in debate, wherein the object is not to change your opponent's mind, but rather to sway the judges (in this case, 3rd party readers of the argument du jour)...

Believe me when I say I don't delude myself that I can EVER change the mind of a troll... frankly, I don't care what they think in the first place, after all they're just trolls...

And in the meantime, anybody who finds my behavior distasteful is welcome to put me on their ignore list, if they so choose... I find that preferable to keeping silent, so as to remain "popular" with that crew...

If you know me long enough, you'll find that I actually want to LIKE everybody I run across in here... even those who have stepped on my last nerve, if they make an effort to work and play well with others (LOL), I'll happily back off, and give them a chance...

TheProphet seems to want to fit in these days, and has approached me with some talk about the Shenandoah Valley... and we're having a real nice conversation, utterly devoid of the hostility that characterized our earlier exchanges...

I'm not claiming credit for that, mind you, I'd have to be a card carrying jerk to respond with hostility when somebody approaches me in a friendly manner, even if we do have a history of antagonism... I'll still argue with TheProphet when I disagree with him, but I will keep in the back of my mind that he made an effort to deal with me with civility, and hope I'll be able to do the same even when I disagree with him...

As for you being a "numbskull", seems to me that you were just giving back some of what you were getting... that's just human nature...

ROTFLMAO... we may have more in common than either of us realizes...

What makes this board tough for me is I frequent other boards where you can get away with a LOT more than you can in here... and sometimes, I just kinda lose sight of which board I'm on...

Other times, I'm just in a foul mood, generally because of stuff completely unrelated to this board, and sound off without thinking at all...

So you do your best, but don't feel that you can't return fire if you're being insulted... just be careful how you choose your words, and you can return fire while remaining within the rules...

You can't run around lettin' the likes of me abuse you...
