I just don’t see them letting him go. I know at some point if he wants a 8 year 350m deal you have to let him go. So I’d beef up the trenches and the running game.

If reading the details accurately, the restructure sets Dak's cap hit and dead money as follows:

2023: Cap Hit $27.38M Dead Money $89.07M

2024: Cap Hit $59.38M Dead Money $61.69M

2025: Cap Hit $36.3M Dead Money $36.3M Void Year

So in looking at the numbers, my issue with the restructure is that prior to the restructure, Dallas in essence had an 'out' in that they would have had $39M in dead money with Dak but a cap savings of around $13M.
Now, because of the restructuring, Dallas can't get out of the contract until after 2024 so if Dak performs poorly again this season, and with the enormous cap hit in 2024, they will be forced to yet again have to restructure his deal.

So, the bottom line is that it appears Dallas is stuck with Dak for at least 2 more seasons and possibly more than that.
You lost me a bit.........to me it's all about guaranteed money, w/o it, nothing is happening. Dak's 2023 salary of $31M was/is guaranteed but the $29M for 2024 is not. Where are you getting they can't get out of the contract until AFTER 2024 coz of restructuring? The restructuring had no impact on the cap hit or dead cap from my understanding. The same numbers were there before the restructuring and are still there.

Cannot pay an average QB elite money and expect to win a SB

/thread
Unfortunately there are no average QB salaries anymore. It seems starters are either on rookie contracts or making over $40 million a year. Would love for Prescott to have a Mahomes or Carr mentality and take a little less but don’t think that is going to happen.

So true........See Daniel Jones's new contract. It sets the floor for starting QB 2nd contracts going forward.

It’s a slightly misleading terminology to say Dak’s salary is converted into signing bonus. Nothing actually happens to Dak’s money. Dak will get his normal salary every game for 17 games as if this didn’t happen.

All that changes is the way his salary hits the books. Jerry is allowed to write it off as a prorated bonus instead of an all-in-one cap hit in 2023. This is why the club does not need permission from the player to do this. If the way Dallas paid out money to Dak had changed in any way, they’d have needed his consent.
Ummm...I am pretty sure he just got a lump sum check from the Cowboys for the amount converted.

That is how it works. You convert to bonus.. you pay bonus.

You can't expect a Fringe group in Cowboys Nation to determine our course.... :muttley:

Dak Haters are weirdos
Your schtick is old
Many here might not remember but you were a huge supporter of Quincy Carter back in the day when everyone knew he was bad
You crowed just as loudly back then and your support for an overpaid mediocre QB is for the same reason now . You slinked away with your tail between your legs for a few years
As I said before, your opinions are a joke because they are not based on football but other factors that can’t be brought up
Try to be a fan of the team not players

The price goes up for a starting QB every time a good QB gets a contract. The salary cap goes up and skilled positions goes up. But if france wants 50 million I think JJ will say no. IMO only a brady type QB would deserve that. Teams would pay Dak 40-43. We will see this year what’s up. If he continues to throw picks and do it in big games then it’s time to go. But I think we go back to a 2016 type Offense.
you mean to say Mahomes type LOL

who BTW is underpaid by most who should get paid standards, he did take page out of Bradys book to give his team a friendly 10year deal with only 144mil guaranteed meaning hes filthy rich yet smart enough to know it can help him have better support payers.

This restructuring was always coming and it is a GREAT sign.

Dallas was in this spot with Romo with Romo before his last extension and he wouldn't let them flip this switch.
He forced the extension.
Dak did NOT.

Why? Dak is being team friendly but also simply smart.
His money has only ever gone up so no hurry to extend.
Let a few other QBs surpass 45M and then go get his 45M AAV extension.

Dallas for it's part will have a lot of pressure soon as money pushed off comes due and you need to keep that going.
It's the leverage Aaron Rodgers has had for so long.

Yeah I wondered why some many saw more potential in Drew Henson, Chad Hutchinson and Clint Stoerner when BILL PARCELLS kept pushing Quincy Carter.....

The same Fringe have an interesting progeny......Dak Hate

Anything can be brought up.....you just don't have the Foundation to discuss this topic....

Dak Haters are barred from the respectful Selection of the QB1 process.... Whales Oil in a Crypto World is worthless

The Chiefs were smart enough to sign that deal with 2 years left on his rookie deal.
They locked him in with plenty of time to spread the money out and beat the insane QB market inflation.
Truly well done.

Mahomes owns half of Kansas City now so his salary isn't nearly his own revenue stream.
He will be able to buy an NFL team when he retires. --He's already part-owner of many KC area pro teams.

Everyone knows the basis for your liking certain QB's and then you use that basis to attack others by insinuating they dislike Dak for the very reason you like him. Your card-playing days should best be used at the casino and not here.
