Let's try to think the way this front office operates (1st rd pick)

OL usually gets wiped out after rd 1, if you truly want to upgrade, especially at Tackle, they are going to have to do it with their 1st pick. However, if a player falls that wasn't expected to be there, you take him!
Tackle appears to be the favorite because there are so many that will have a high draft grade. I don’t think they draft one in the first if Tyron returns though. The Cowboys will not draft a tackle to sit the bench. I think they will draft a center with guard flex in the 1st or second.

I like him. I think he’s closer to Mingo than Metcalf. And I was big fan of Mingo. I wouldn’t be at all upset if he was our 2nd round.
Agree…I’d put him somewhere in the middle of the 2.

In Mingos defense Car was a disaster this year. The OL was a complete disaster so Bryce was running for his life all season. Still think he can be a great WR.

I cannot see them drafting a tackle either if Tyron resigns. It will be either a G/C or another position.

Off topic, what are your thoughts about Patrick Queen? Many on this board what the Cowboys to sign him, but if I remember correctly he was being called a bust prior to Roquan's arrival.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if we drafted both…and Stephen telling us since our Dr did the surgery on Brooks it was a steal.
That is their "mo" for sure. I am in on Payton Wilson for our 2nd rd selection, think he is worth the risk at that point and he won't be there when we pick in the next rd. Not sure about Brooks, injuries to running backs really scare me, especially the life of them in this league is 1 contract. Now you can say the same thing about linebackers, but at least we know Wilson can play next season barring any setbacks.

We know it will be what will be considered the BPA although probably BPA of the perceived 1st or 2nd need. The only caveat is if a guy who they consider a top 10/15 should fall in the 24 range. This could happen if teams go nuts and end up drafting all six QBs to high. Combine and personal workouts are going to determine a lot.

We could trade down but very doubtful a trade up since we have fewer significant draft picks this year. A trade down would not be out of the 1st round, imo because the value of the 5th year option. If you believe there are 24 real 1st round picks, then you will be in the vast minority. Most consider, including the so-called draft experts, only 15/16 considered 1st round picks.

This front office doesn't usually draft future starters, they like to target, day 1 plug and play starters. Now with a HC on a one year deal and Jerry coming out and saying this offseason won't be as much for the future, but more improving the team in the present, which positions have an opening?

QB-Dak is expected to be back in some form.
RB-there isn't a back worthy of a 1st rd selection this yr.
WR-strong possibility, where teams usually start 3 receivers. Gallup may not return, Tolbert still remains more of a backup.
TE-Very deep and just used a 2nd rd pick
T-If Tyron Smith is back, they aren't drafting a 1st rd Tackle to sit, but if he doesn't return becomes top need.
G-once again, where is this 1st rd player going to start?
C-strong possibility if they allow Biaz to leave via fa

DE-possible. A lot will depend on how Zimmer is going to use Parsons
3DT-possible. It would depend upon how they feel about Osa

NT-not happening with this franchise in back to back years, but is a need
LB-there isn't a linebacker worthy of a 1st rd selection.
CB-Strong possibility, Zimmer loves 1st rd corners, but will depend on if Gilmore resigns
S-they just resigned both starting safeties
They will try to fill most of the positions via FA like they always do so they don’t have to draft for need. That is what they generally do. If they don’t have a OC, LB, or RB singed before the draft they will draft for need instead of BPA.

It’s scary to go into the draft needing so many things. Last year we never got a RB or a LB. In Stephen’s words, “the draft didn’t fall that way for us”…

Regardless I do not want to see LVE play another snap here.

Most insiders believe Lve will retire this offseason. They cannot go into the draft needing a starter if they truly want to upgrade the position. They cannot just band-aid it up, either with a low fa signing. Going to have to sign a legitimate starting linebacker. Add another in the draft if they can.

With a great rb class, they ended up taking Vaughn, who looks like it was just a favor to one of their scouts, as they just didn't trust the player at all. They should of came out of the draft with this year's starter, fully knowing that Pollard had to go due to his price tag.

Always a step behind. They did try to get LB’s in the past couple of drafts but they’ve both been injury prone. I would sign a FA, and would love to get Cedric Gray to man the middle. I’m standing on the table for Braelon Allen or Trey Benson, but still sign a RB for insurance. Bass and Hoffman proved they can play and Asim seems to be a find. I would also look for a FA half decent cheap WR.

I have watched Queen. He needs to be protected up front by big tackles. Queen was considered a bust until the Ravens brought Smith in at middle linebacker and he could be the off ball linebacker. I think he is going to Seattle to be with McDonald. Bottom line somebody is going to overpay him.

That what I thought, not the type of middle linebacker we need, more of a outside backer.

We need Raquon Smith and could have had him for the pick we used for Schoonmaker.
Yes, but this franchise would of had to extend his contract as well. The Cowboys salary structure has always been backwards, paying the running back and not paying the DT position.

Why is everyone forgetting Asim Richards?? Looked like a plug-in starter as a 5th rounder.

I don't remember ever seeing Richards play in any regular season game. I'm sure he did because three or so games they took starters out at the very end.
