Back in August, how would you have felt If I told you Cowboys would be 4-1 with a QB controversy because we have 2 franchise QBs.
Yes think about that...

What would have been your reaction?
I would not have believed it.
Zeke being a monster - yes, but Dak playing like the #1 pick - no.

We can argue all we want about Romo and Dak. We may win it all or not this year, but the franchise is looking way way up!

Whether Romo starts this year or in 2017 or not, we can now devote the next 2 drafts to mostly defense.
We can easily add 1 FA and 1st round pick to the defense in both years.
We have some needs on the offense - WR2, backup G and future RT.
But these can be had with round 2 picks and round 3 picks.

Imagine that, that makes 4 premium players on the D.
We may lose the 2 CBs and we need DEs and LBs.
But we now have the resources to make the D really good.

Imagine 2017 off-season:
FA - premium FA such as Wilkerson for LDE or the Pats RDE
#1 pick - BPA between CB/LB/DE
#2 pick - WR2
#3 pick - BPA between CB/LB/DE
#4 pick - BPA between RT/G
#5 pick - BPA between RT/G
#6 pick - BPA
#7 pick - BPA

If we lose Leary to big contract, we will get high compensation pick for his replacement.
The way he is playing, we may get a 3rd round comp pick.

We can even do the same draft in 2018 though a QB should be drafted somewhere.

Given how high we are likely to be picking if you want a quality WR then it needs to be the 1. Teams overdraft them like crazy nowadays which shifts the value. Seeing how the guy in HOU is playing I can see why.

You may be right.
We got KWill with #74 and Giants just got Shepard with #40.
May be wishful thinking but someone in the middle (smarter KWill) would be acceptable for WR2.

KWill lacks speed and has alligator arms in addition to being a bonehead; that is what 3rd round gets you. No way we are picking that early in the second round.

Might need to move RT up in the draft a little, but who knows these days might get a gem in the late rd's. :muttley:

Tackle is on my short list of positions in need.

Top 5 position of need for this team.

yes, may be:
Round 2: BPA between WR/RT/G
Round 4: BPA between WR/RT/G not picked in round 2...
Round 5: BPA between WR/RT/G

Not necessarily. I would take a player like Sterling Shepherd in the second round. I don't think this offense needs an elite receiver, we just need somebody consistent

And that player is WR James Washington, if he declares. Guy is dynamite with speed to burn and an electric PR\KR.

Sterling Shepherd was the 40th pick were are going to be about 15+ picks later than that at the rate we are going. If you want a starting quality WR they are normally all gone in the first 50 picks.

I am ok with a smarter KWill for WR2.
Defense needs resources...

I don't disagree with that second part. Nonetheless with Dez getting hurt frequently and TWill having a fair chance of moving on WR remains a top need.

There are certain positions I don't want taken that early like interior oline and QB and RB but outside of that type of biasing I think we still need to go for BPA. If equally tiered WR, OT, CB, and DE are all there then take the DE but if the WR is clearly a better graded talent then you take him and don't look back.

With the O all set, we are not far from contending.
So I am willing to sacrifice on BPA regarding the offense to contend.

I am hoping we spend the $ on a DE to get a sure thing.
I am hoping we let Crawford go next year and get someone like Wilkerson.

To save the money means we dont resign Clairborne so we have only remaining Brown and Oscan.
It is much easier to draft decent CB than DE late in the 1st round.
If Jaylon comes back, then LB may no longer be a weakness.
