I don't remember him saying anything about the defense; The defense burned out Parcells and being too old to want to endure Romo’s growing pains. He mentioned both in an interview.
He turned Dallas into a competitive franchise again almost immediately. The Cowboys went 10-6 in his first year of 2003, then after a disappointing 6-10 finish in 2004, the club went 9-7 in each of the next two seasons, 2005-06. The latter included another demoralizing playoff defeat, this time to the Seahawks, which would be Parcells' final game as a head coach.
The loss in Seattle – remembered more for Tony Romo's bobbled snap on a field-goal attempt in the final minute that would've put the Cowboys ahead – proved to be the final straw for Parcells, who was 65 years old at the time.
"That Seattle game … that had a real mental affect on me," Parcells says, referring to the Cowboys' 21-20 loss to the Seahawks in the 2006 NFC Wild Card round. "I really thought we had a chance to do something. And not only with Seattle, but Chicago the next week. I just thought we had a chance. That one beat me up a little bit."
Not long after that game, Parcells decided to hang it up, citing a lack of desire to continue, especially with the finish in Seattle still fresh on his mind.
"I was just really upset and saddened by that last game," Parcells says. "I just didn't want to try to do it again. I know from coaching all these years, if you're not mentally geared up for it – it's hard enough to do it anyway, but if you don't get really into it, it's impossible. I just thought enough was enough."
There was a TV interview with him years ago. Jim Gray may have interviewed him. He was asked why he stepped down as Cowboys HC. He went through a number of reasons. He said the defense had him frustrated. He said he had never been around a group of players that he couldn’t get them to do what he wanted them to do like that group, He said the playoff loss to Seattle got him down and he felt the Cowboys were a ways off. He talked about Romo’s potential but that turnovers were an issue and it was going to take time with him. He said he did have some regrets about not returning when he saw how good the team was the following year. He was very candid in the interview.I don't remember him saying anything about the defense;
This is from dallascowboys.com:
He has not been successful as a head coach at any level at any programThat would be smart. I’m a Tech fan so I know all about him. He’s not my choice, but he certainly checks all the boxes for the way the Jones pick coaches.
Jerry is not picking Slowik or Johnson - so looks like we are stuck with MMJust a following up post from yesterday's Zimmer possibility for the Cowboys HC Job. Here are the top candidates for next year:
(Taken by CBS Sports)
1) Ben Johnson Lions OC
2) Vrabel Former Titan HC
3) Flores Viking DC
4) Glenn Lions DC
5) Brady Bills OC
6) Kinksbury Commanders OC
7) Joseph Broncos DC
8) Slowik Texans OC
9) Cohen Tampa OC
10) Minter Chargers DC
11) Moore Eagles OC
Who is favorites top choice or choices? Vrabel, Flores or Johnson, Slowik for me.
I really think we should be zeroing in on Vrabel and Zimmer. Veteran HC's who have a successful track record.Jerry is not picking Slowik or Johnson - so looks like we are stuck with MM
Yes, HCs with experience who were out of work and on no one elses radar who could be had for cheap and would except the parameters of the job.He was looking at coaches with experience. The 1st time HC's can probably be ruled out, if they do the same.

I'm sure. If I were Jerry I would have hired Harbaugh, then told him he can run the team however he wants. Then, since I'd be a billionaire, I'd go off and do a bunch of cool stuff while the coach, who has proven he can run a team, runs the team.Imagine Harbaugh with Jerry? Harbaugh is notoriously prickly. That would never work. Too bad because the guy is a great coach.
That ruddy faces drunk is way too narcissistic for that. What would Nepo Baby do then? Take care of the family and enjoy life? Better to be a media hounding dirtbag.I'm sure. I guess that's just not appealing Jerry, for some reason.
Talk about going off the reservation. This started when I said the Chargers hired a new HC (which they in fact did - I was right) and you quoted me with the response "Are you serious?" and I said yes.Get caught? Are you 5? Moore sucks. He is not a leader of men. His record against top defenses with the Cowboys was terrible. Perhaps you weren’t watching the team during the Moore OC years. At best a middling OC. At worst Jason Garrett 2.0.
Listen you are a mod with a demonstrated history with me so I won’t respond to you anymore. Too annoying frankly.Talk about going off the reservation. So what kind of rabbit hole that you started going down from there must be bottomless.
I've never wanted to be famous. Billions of dollars? Duh. Sure. Of course. Money isn't a savior, but it makes life easier. But famous? No. I'm a simple man. I'd spend my time between a cabin on a lake in Montana, a beach house in San Diego, and a house where I grew up - Southern Illinois. Best whitetail hunting in the country here. I'd be pursuing my personal hobbies - photography, archery, fishing, hiking, cinema, video games, guitar, piano. I could spend all day pursuing everything I enjoy. That ruddy faces drunk is way too narcissistic for that. What would Nepo Baby do then? Take care of the family and enjoy life? With JJ and his dimwit sons to answer to, that’s an easy NO WAY JOSE!!!!!!!I still think it is a very attractive job.
I think it will be McCarthy and Zimmer while Jerry preaches the importance of continuity. It's inevitable. The question is why he hasn't extended McCarthy yet.
Those thinking another head coach is being hired are wishful thinkers and not realists.
My only solace would be if Vrabel or Saleh are brought in to coach the defense.
