I don't like Lawrence either, at least not with our first... if the case is trading down, i prefer Shazier or even Jernigan who should be falling after his "incident"; take Kareem Martin instead in later rounds, he looks more like a DE to me.

the cowboys need to replace demarcus ware's pass rush acumen.
the only DE who can realistically do that is Clowney.
so they will nee dot take a pass rush specialist which is where Lawrence/Ford and other 250 pound types come in.

I think that if we are talking about replacing DWare today, that's Clowney. However, I think that if we are talking about guys who might be able to in a year or two, I think Bar or Attaochu might possibly be those guys. Hard to know for sure but they have the physical skills along with the frame to get there IMO.

I don't know guys. I watched a lot of Lawrence at Boise St. I like him but I don't know if I love him. I just didn't see the sudden explosion from him. He's pretty strong for his size and he can play with leverage. He looks more like a 34 OLB to me. He's too small to be a SDE and I don't think he's quick enough to be a Rush DE in a 43. Against New Mexico, which I specifically watched, he did do much in 2 games. He had 6 tackles, 2.5 TFL, and no Sacks.

UNM is not exactly a powerhouse. If I'm looking at a DE later in the 1st or 2nd round, I'm looking at Attaochu, Tuitt, Crichton or Martin.
He is one of the most difficult player to evaluate for me.

He is a very good college pass rusher but doesn't have the elite speed that you would prefer to see. As you said he's not an SDE either.

He is similar to Terrell Suggs, IMO.

The reality is even Clowney is unlikely to ever be what Ware has been. Hall of Fame guys are just that rare. There isn't a HOF pass rusher even every 2 or 3 draft classes.

Barr and Attaochu are likely on the radar as pass rushers all the same.
Dallas simply has to come out of the draft with a pass rusher.
They added DL but no one with elite pass rush skill and they need that one guy to make others lives easier.

I agree. I think it's important for them to come out of the off season with an edge rusher. However, it may not be something that we have to draft, IDK. I think drafting the guy is certainly smarter and more likely for obvious reasons. I have heard talk that the Cowboys really like Martin. I like Attaochu the best out of all the edge rushers available to us. I read the post that said the Cowboys really don't like Jeffcoat. I hope that's a smoke screen. I think that he's going to turn out to be one of the better pass rushers coming out of this draft.

Lawrence is a good hard player with a strong motor. A lunchpail type of guy but I'm not real thrilled about getting him in the first round. Frankly, I'd rather trade down and grab Easley in the first round but that's just me. I'm not convinced Easley will be there in the second round when we pick.

I agree.

Taking Lawrence in the 1st round would make me physically ill.

The kid is a nice prospect, but paying a 1st round price for him is ridiculous.

yup. good point.
key is manipulating draft to get guys you want at solid values.

that was really the secret of jimmy johnson.
all that moving around was to flip the board to where you were faced with a guy you like at solid value.

i could care less if i like the draft come sunday night but i reallly reallllly wanna like it in 3 years.

Secret to Jimmy was that he was taking guys who most teams saw as tweeners -- he was interested in speed at a time other teams weren't.

Also, getting a franchise QB with your #1 pick didn't hurt. Had Aikman been a bust we would have been dead.

I agree. There are really only a few top notch DTs. There are a hand full of guys who are equal talent DEs who will be available in the 2nd. Give me Easley at #30 and the best DE at #47.

Lawrence is not Suggs....And it's not even close. Suggs was a freak coming out college...hence the top 10 pick. Lawrence isn't nearly as strong/physical as Suggs either.

You must have forgot about Suggs' poor athletic testing that made people forget about his production.

Not me Al. I remember a lot of heated discussions back when Suggs was coming out. Seems like not so long ago.

Im teling you Barr and Easley first 2 rounds. Thats alot of fire power for years to come.

You think the Cowboys would trade up for Barr, sit tight or trade back and hope he falls. IMO if Barr is there at 16 he could easily fall to the mid 20's.

I think he will to 16. Why trade down when a player you need and are interested in is there at 16?
