Good idea.

I like ... best thought of the day. :)

so the saints bending the rules on a technicality to get him to wear #5 is not special treatment? it seems very contradictory that you would agree to that

i mean then we could list flo as a punter and let him wear #1
bledsoe as a tackle and make him #64

it would be anarchy...

I go back and forth on the whole Bush #5 debate. On the one hand, I don't think he should get special treatment. On the other, the NFL is about making money and #5 jerseys would sale better than 25.

I dont' understand the big deal. why don't they just make linemen numbers from 50-79 90-99 then let the rest of the players choose what numbers they want. I mean what is the poing anyway.

ONE RB does not have the right to petition the league for exemption.

What next? Mario Williams petitioning that he's exempt from off sides calls?

Brady Quinn wanting #1002563 on his jersey?

are you kidding this has no bearing on anything related to play its a marketing thing for this young man it has nothing to do with offsides calls, or Brady Quinn who for all we know could not even be in the NFL ever so leave it be!

its about marketing the players by position and makes it easier for the officials thats why the do it not that i agree with it i could care less.

DL also wears 60-79... i've seen numerous D-linemen wearing numbers in the sixties... present and past seasons...

There was a recent article on SI about this very issue. They pointed out that Paule Hornung wore #5 during his career with GB. They also mentioned the charity angle and the boost that NO might get from having a "star palyer" with an easily recognizable number. I don't have a problem with making exceptions for good reasons. If it helps to give the Crescent City a boost, I'm all for it.

Still, don't let him bend the rules. HIS part of the jersey sales is 1% of the total price ... about $1 for each $100 jersey sold. So, donating 25 cents per jersey isn't much. He can't throw in a million dollars out of his own pocket and not bat an eyelash.

If he's allowed an exemption, then everyone will want exemptions. Then we're in the middle of chaos.

The players get 6% of Jersey Sales

If they sell 250k authentic Jerseys at 249.00 each That is close to a 1 million dollar contribution

Bush isn't the only player petitioning the NFL to allow him to wear a certain number. LeCharles Bentley is also petitioning the NFL to allow him to wear 00 for the Browns.

Boz would have been pretty good- I watched him play in the NFL the short time he was healthy before his shoulder injuries forced his retirement. He looked like he could have been a Pro Bowl LB. He was definitly a roid, no doubt about it.

He came into the league and established himself as a kicker as well as a RB. Thus the reason he wore #5.

Between how many players ? Quick math less than 600 bucks per player. Hardly worth it to make a rookie above the rules.
