BRITS FIRE BACK

We're now starting to get e-mails from folks in England in response to the meatheaded remarks of Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder.

Since we have essentially abandoned the "E-mails We Like" feature (hey, until the government acts on my request to add a 25th hour to the day that's just the way it has to be), we'll post it here.

"Channing didn't even realise we spoke English," said the reader. "Well I didn't even realise the Dolphins played football. Oh wait, they're 0-7, they don't."

Zing!

I disagree. London, England is about as insignificant a city there is today.

Eddie... you are the 2nd dumbest bloke I've ever heard / read about!!!! Which is no crime... but you fit into the idiot Brit stereotype of Americans that I know is just purely inaccurate from spending years reading informative posts on this site.

Maybe 1st if Channing was joking around!

Guys...a couple of points...

1 Thierry Henry is French

2 The UK is an extremely diverse collection of cultures, influenced by many immigrants along with a tremendous influence (main Influence) from our friends over the pond.

3 The passport issue? Not sure if it is true...but I can understand. I have travelled a lot in Europe in my younger years with my family holidays, but ALWAYS wanted to come to America. I have visited 4 times (staying for a month each time) and have barely scratched the surface of your beautiful country. The USA has almost every climate / geographic desire you could wish for within its shores... desert, fabulous oceans / coast, frozen mountains , glitzy cities, cosmo breaks, etc etc.....

4 London has an ample population of black people!

5 There are many famoous black brits.. but mostly from sporting and entertainment industries. the English football (soccer) team on average has 3 or 4 every game (out of 11).....etc

6 The Brits kicking up fuss are just as ignorant as the stereotypes they are arguing against!

IMO, the USA is a magnificent country full of fantastic, courteous people.

No. Football player?

No. Is it someplace important? Is this some place which would be important to an Asian American?

I have no clue. Am I ignorant?

Do you feel better? I'm ignorant cause I could care less about these things and don't waste my memory space on them? Now you can call me names.
I don't remember calling you any names...

Gotcha...

Asian American...

I'm from Hawaii. I'm 1/2 Hawaiian. I have Korean, Japanese, even some Russian and French. I could be called asian-american as well. My last name is Lee.

We get taught Hawaiian history as children. We even get taught something called world history, and American history. Somehow I know these things too. From watching TV as a child - from school - whatever... I'm not saying it has to be significant to you. Heck I know virtually nothing about my "Asian American" heritage.

You do however know basic things like that.

The guy could have been joking about not knowing that stuff, but if he doesn't then I really do think he's an idiot.

In case anyone (like me) was feeling really stupid for not having heard of Kaohsiung, here's a little scale reference:

London, pop 7.5 Mil Kaohsiung, pop 1.5 Mil

PS (for the Channings): it's 5 times bigger!

Talk about ignorant.

When i was travelling around the states by train in 1992 a guy got on in Minneapolis and asked me where I was from, I said 'Scotland',

he said 'Man, I aint ever heard of that place.'

Throwing him a bone I said,

'Its over the atlantic, in Europe, you know you've heard of Britain, the Queen.'

he goes 'Man, I aint ever heard of that and i've been all over the world.'

'Where have you been', I asked

'Texas and LA', he said.

I asked for a picture with the band, you know what they did? told me to get my mates n they brought us all back stage, signed my cd i bought of theirs and gave us food, beer anything. Some of the nicest guys i have ever met :D

Great post, but I found it funny that this was the first point you made :laugh2:

Ashley Cole is from England and a black soccer player if anyone was interested...

In no way do I think Channing Crowder was serious. If he was, he's ridiculously ignorant.

Dude was joking. I have heard a lot that he is always making crazy comments like this, stuff that only he laughs at. The sad part is, he went way over the top and so many of you want to belive that. I don't know what is worse Crowder's bad joke or so many of you so eager to belive he is that dumb.

How do you know whether he was joking or not? Did he say he was joking?

Whom did you heard from?

Why do you assume people want to believe he is dumb? I don't believe his intelligence has any bearing on us. People are commenting on his comments based on how it was reported.

I don't know what is worse Crowder's bad joke or so many of you so eager to belive he is that dumb.
Again, no one is eager to believe he is that dumb and many have qualified their statement with "if he wasn't joking" prior to stating their opinion of Crowder's comment. It isn't like we were eagerly waiting for Crowder to make a dumb comment so that we can pounce on it.

London is my favorite city in the world, and I've pretty much been to all the major ones. I would live there in a second if it wasn't so blasted expensive thanks to the ever weakening American peso, err, dollar.

In this case, size doesn't matter.

Sao Paolo has a population of 11 million (19 million in the metro area) and the majority of Americans won't be able to locate it on the map.

In this case, Sao Paolo is a significantly more important city than London, as the chicks are tons hotter.

It's tough to beat the lights of Paris in the Spring IMO. I have never been overly found of England only because it rains so much but, I would have to agree with you that London is one of the top 5 or so Cities in the entire world.

Personally, I think Vancouver is very nice. Stupid as it may sound, I love Albuquerque. I travel so much that home is always the best for me.

Perhaps because I actually take the time and READ other things than this board.

Maybe because Miami fans talk about how funny he is and how he is always playing around. look around the web you can find a few things about him joking around.

Here's more detail on what he said during that interview:

"I couldn’t find London on a map if they didn’t have the names of the countries,” Crowder said. “I swear to God. I don’t know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that.

“I know (Washington Commanders linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That’s the closest thing I know to London. He’s black, so I’m sure he’s not from London. I’m sure that’s a coincidental name.”

When reminded Dolphins practice squad receiver and NFL Europe veteran Marvin Allen is from London, Crowder’s standup routine didn’t miss a beat.

“He’s from London?” Crowder said. “I knew he was from over there because he talks funny. I was surprised (when they met) because — I don’t want to say he didn’t look the part because that’s a stereotype — but he didn’t look the part. I heard him talk, and I thought he had a recorder and was just mouthing.”

My guess is that he was probably kidding. Of course it is possible that he really didn't know and made a joke of it to keep from being embarassed. Either way... no big deal to me...

I thought Henry was French. ??

He played for the French team in the world cup anyway, and his name sure sounds French. "Henry" is pronounced the same as Texas pronounce "ornery."

He is.

He is from Paris. His last name is pronounced Hawnri.

Amazing soccer player, just became the greatest international goal scorer in French history bypassing the amazing Michel Platini.

Vancouver is fine except for the traffic, smog and rain. When the sun is out like it is today, there isn't much better but the rain is depressing.

I prefer Paris to London. In Paris all the great sites like Louvres, Musee D'Orsay, Tuileries etc are close together. In London, the sites are more spread out.

Both are nice but if I was offered a choice of a trip to Paris or London, I would choose Paris.

Sorry, I don't care if England's native language is English. What does it have to do with Channing? You don't know his environment growing up. Perhaps he has more important things to deal with than worry about names of a foreign city.

You come rushing out to insult him yet have no clue about his circumstances. Why should he know where London is? Is it some place which is supposed to have meaning to him???

It's hardly ignorance. It's not important to him, and I have no trouble understanding his point.

Dude, just stop. If you are trying to be funny by defending him, the joke is over. Channing was either joking around or he is as dumb as a freaking rock.

Not knowing that ENGL-ish is spoken in ENGL-and......is border line ********.

Whats next, not knowing SPAINISH is spoken in SPAIN?

:laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1:

I give up.

Yes, he SHOULD know where London, England is. But I don't fault him for not knowing.

I don't know his economic background, but there are alot of kids out there who have more important things to worry about.

I simply don't like the tone of the article insinuating something they don't know about.

Forget about the part about him not knowing where London is. He atleast should be able to figure out the English is spoken in England.

Damn, a freaking 2nd grader could probably figure this out.:laugh2:

Did Channing attend a college?

This is a basic knowledge, perhaps you are used to ignorance, more than I am. I find it ridiculous, it's that simple.

Attend college?

I dont know where you went to school, but we had history class (American Revolution, the 13 Colonies, Declaration of Independence, ect.....) in like the freaking 1st grade.

As far as his circumstance.......how you can be a professional athelete and honestly dont know any of this is just amazing. The player would have to be border-line ********, seriously.
