Lombardi: NFL admits call against Butler was wrong

I don't know how that claim got started, but it's not true. It was called against the Commanders in a game against us in 2014. The Commanders tried to substitute a player late, which is what the rule is intended to prevent -- not a simple substitution early in the play clock like the one called against us.
As you said Adam,

Thanks Adam. I knew I recalled that penalty being used fairly recently but couldn't remember when.

Refereeing is soooo bad, I would be okay with a booth review of every penalty. I think the NFL could hit the 90% success mark :muttley:
I think replay should be like MLB and just have people at a centralized location watching, would definitely speed up the process
These are great ideas in my opinion. The technology exists right now so why not implement it?

Piss off the officials? Who cares?

Make the games longer than they already are? The games wouldn't run that much longer than they already do due to the dedicated amount of television advertisements.

Similarly, piss off some fans who think there are already too many breaks in game play due to flags? Who cares part deux? Getting every call right should be the norm. Too impatient? Take a Xanax. Bored out your skull? Take a nap. Everybody wins.

I speak for many Cowboys fans when I say, we want a correctly officiated game when it matters most, win or lose. Who knows how the game would have played out, no one does. But at the end of a playoff game, we expect to see the result of a well-officiated game. We can accept the end of the Cowboys season if and only if the referees did not interfere. Otherwise, the bitter loss may not have happened.

Officiating mistakes are going to happen because the games are officiated by human beings and unless they can change the rules to have people in a booth look for officiating mistakes and have them corrected when they occur, mistakes will continue to happen. Mo got away with a clear holding call on a Packers 3rd down attempt that would have given them a first down. We won a playoff game last season against Detroit with many within the league saying it was a mistake for the officials to pick up a flag after a PI was called and announced to the crowd. I don't see us winning that game without that flag being picked up.

Ok Roger

Will take a third-round supplemental pick and a last-place schedule

We're Square thanks

The NFL is becoming laughable to the point it rivals the NBA.

Becoming???? I quit as a hardcore fan 2 years ago...Best decision I've made my entire life. Already over last weeks L. Could care less about who wins the super bowl as well. The NFL is a joke. Players might as well wear flags...and not even practice.

Why call the penalty... unless you KNOW you're correct 100%? Or why wasn't this "huddled up," discussed and then removed?

It's almost guaranteed that someone put it into their heads before the game. A call that hasn't been made in 30 years.

Let's not forget the official damn near sprinting to place the ball down, so Rodgers could hike it before Dallas got their players off the field. Early in the 1st.

I HATE complaining about officiating but those 2 plays really sucked.

I wish I could stop caring about the Cowboys as much as I do. I would probably have a much lower blood pressure lol.

I'm not going to watch another playoff game. No point in it. You'd think the league would at least TRY to cover up their agenda

Inexcusable, especially for a do or die playoff game. It's time to start fining refs or give the option to review penalties, or both.

22 years of this crap, kudos to you other diehards that have been through more. I saw one SB win, been waiting since. It's wearing me down, but jj knows I'm going to keep fallowing this team.

All the games you mentioned are not clear cut results, they are what-ifs. The point is, NFL fans are tired of games that end with what-ifs. There's a difference between an honest mistake and intentional malicious judgements, which Dez's catch and Butler's phantom call both were.
