Long Pass Interference

I forget who it was to, but you’ll remember as Collinsworth and the other guy adamantly said it was clearly offensive PI.

The defender had his back to the ball and clearly ran through the receiver. It was text book defensive PI. I don’t care that the receiver got his arm on the defenders back as he came back for the ball.

It was a short lived rant, but it just pissed me off they were so clear that we got a huge advantage there.

Does anyone have the video I’m talking about?

All I know is the Cowboys lost an overtime game against Oakland last year because the refs called PI on Brown when the Oakland receiver did exactly the same thing. The play set up the Raiders in chip shot FG range. The difference was the ball was underthrown and there was no way it was catchable.

I could only find the thread about people "owing Smith an apology". The OP said nothing about Collinsworth, but I mention that he'd said what a good mentor Peters has been to him. Not sure if that's the thread you mean.

Yes. I think it's there solely because Collinsworth slobbered all over Smith last night.

Umm, what do you call this?

I call that… DPI….

The guy was in his chest without looking back for the ball. How do you suggest he try to reach for the ball? Glad the refs saw it as it was. You listening to Chris Collins....that would figure.
I'm agreeing with Collinsworth, not listening to him. The defender doesn't have to look back for the ball the entire route.

Are you under the impression the OP was saying that should've been OPI, or are you referring to others posting in the thread?

I referred to what another person posted. I thought it was obvious. But you know how it goes, some look to just start stuff up or feel the need to but heads and make stuff up.

That’s not even remotely accurate
That's 100% accurate. Do you need a transcript?

CC: I don't know about that one. That's offensive pass interference, if it's anything. Look at Brown's gonna give him a bear hug, and pull him into him.

MT: Brandon Fayson is the db.

CC: Terry help me, that's not int.. come on!

TM: It is absolutely not defensive pass interference. He absolutely grabs the defender and pulls him into him. It's not DPI.

He does have to look back before making contact with the receiver.
No he doesn't.

Contact in and of itself is not pass interference. There can be contact. There can be no looking. And, it can still not be interference.

Somewhere along the line people got confused to think any and all contact is interference, that's not true.

And even with regards to turning the head to play the ball, there's nothing about that necessarily being before any contact.

Sorry, I thought it was understood that we were talking about contact that interferes with the WR's ability to make a play on the ball.

The defender being "into" his body as he was prior to the Brown grabbing him is not DPI.

Hard to turn and play the ball after you're grabbed and pulled (though he does do it on the way to the ground).

The call against Brown last year was a bad call.
but that was the point I made earlier. he ran into his body first before the hand came around...at that point brown was falling and his hand came around....contact was made way before the hand. this is no different than Brown getting a penalty in overtime against Raiders last year. if the defender turned his head around, then it would be interference on Brown.

Correct. I would not call that initial contact at all. That's normal good db play. Get in there against the WR and then turn to try and make a play. The 2nd part couldn't happen after he was pulled. At least not until he was falling.

AFTER the defender runs through him lol

This isn't hard. Just watch how the WR is going for the ball and the defender isn't.

Brown was not falling until after he grabbed the db.
