Looking Like McFadden Will Be The Starter

I will wait until the preseason games are over until I make my final judgement but at least now he looks the same as in Oakland. Run to the line, stammer around looking for a hole, then going down like a sack of hammers.

McFadden has the most experience by far so he is going to be given the benefit of the doubt as the 'starter'. Randle, however, is likely the better back (unfortunately) and will break into the most carries role as such. Jerrah is an Arkansas alum and has always had a man-crush on McFadden, so that's bound to play a part in his (over?)usage.

Listening to the post game show and the comments from Jerry, Broadus and others around Valley Ranch, that it's McFadden's job to lose. They just trust him more in pass protection.

How many are genuinely excited about that? To go from Murray now to McFadden, a guy who has terrible YPC over the years, only carried it 200 plus times 2 times in his 8 seasons. Can't stay healthy.

We are going from filet mignon last year to Taco Bell this year.

Which will have a big domino effect on this team.

If McFadden doesn't work out (which I hope he does), we can blame the FO for that. We had so many opportunities this year to get a reliable back like CJ and the FO is just too stubborn about it. Its too bad because were going to have to worry about McFadden being a glass cannon throughout the year and we will never know if he can survive they year without injury until he actually does it.

Cowboys have taken a risk at RB and on special teams. We will have to wait and see if the rewards are enough to make the risks worth it.

I am concerned about both areas as our special teams hasn't looked so special this year. You can't judge the RBs completely without all starters on O as a healthy starting O line and Dez bringing a double team can open a lot more running room. But the injuries and pass protection concerns are troubling.

The uncertainty will make the season all the more interesting! Maybe if we can just keep our guys healthy by the first regular season game, we will have smooth sailing. Pre season has been tragic for a couple teams already.

reasonable.... you need to post more.

I want to know how the team is playing the 2nd half of the Giants game.

Our coaching staff is taking a "season is a marathon not a sprint" approach. We run very fast practices to increase reps, but we monitor reps and protect everyone from injuries.
We don't play many "locks" in preseason games at all, instead preferring to watch tape to grade individual performances of our down roster players. The starters should play a half of football next week, with any that miss with injuries getting their half of work in during preseason game 4.

There is a good chance, with the way the coaches slow build major contact in our training camp, that we won't have a great first half against the Giants.

But once we get rolling, how will we perform in the last 30 minutes of game time? That's what I want to see.

I'll admit, I liked what I saw from Joseph Randle tonight. The play where he reversed the field was shades of Murray.

But I want to see him do it next week. McFadden is trash, don't like his running style, don't like his vision, and he'll be injured at some point during the season. Get him off this team, please.

DMC has a career 4.1 ypc for a bad Oakland team..

I wouldn't be surprised if McFadden ends up the lead back, because I think the coaching staff values the running back knowing what to do in pass protection as much or more than ability to run. I think they view the ability to run, no matter the back, as greatly enhanced by the offensive line. But a running back is going to have to pick the correct guy up in pass protection, no matter how good the line is, or you truly risk losing your quarterback for the season.

Spagnolo(NYG) will blitz the Cowboys like crazy in Week 1 because the perception out there is the Cowboys RBs are either unproven or unfamiliar with the blocking schemes. So this is something that bears watching. And quite honestly, it's the only way the NYG can apply any pressure and protect their shaky pass D.

Anyone here have knowledge of the 9ers depth chart? Hyde and bush seem like locks and so does hayne. That's three backs and they'll probably carry a fb. That leaves hunter and Mike davis. I'd be interested in giving davis a look if he ends up being the odd man out.

McFadden looks slow.... how on earth would he be the starter?

Randle was better last night.

Please realize that those playing special teams on opening day aren't the ones playing special teams so far this preseason.

Broaddus, who was doing radio play-by-play, said Randle's problem in pass protection is his technique. The "want to" is there, but he hasn't fully acquired the skill to allow him to do it consistently, which results in plays like his holding penalty that negated a first down last night.
