With the OLine play last night you can't really get a feel for what either one of them is going to look like. All you could gather was how they perform with a bad line and penetration. We have seen that McFadden struggles when he needs to stop within his first 3 steps, almost like he has those pre planned and is not reacting to what is in front of him. He looks like he wants to hit things as fast as possible and almost slash through to the second level, where Randle looks to read a little more and then cut off of what is there. The result seems to be if the blocks are there McFadden is 7 yards downfield very, very quickly once he plants with his first few steps but somewhat off balance to make his next cut. Randle is more patient but may get stacked up waiting for something to open. He has a more start and stop then McFadden. He may need to learn when to take what is not there and drive to get the dirty 2 yards, instead of the 2 yard loss looking for something that is not happening. You just get the sense that when McFadden runs that he's hitting it faster and if there is a hole he will eat them up in a hurry which is not something Murray could do. Randle has the potential to be more like Murray with the ability to make some miss at the second level. Unfortunately Randle still needs to improve his blitz pickup a little and show he can hold onto the ball when he is getting more carries. It's easy to look good for 5 runs a game, but we haven't seen what he looks like for 20 runs. I'm interested to see what McFadden looks like once he gets some of his timing down with the Oline. With the holes they can open he can have a lot of 15 yard runs with the burst that he has to get past linebackers. In both cases, we just need more data to make any kind of true determination.
