Losing Beasley

Many here rued the day we lost Beasles.

He was a fan favorite and I personally enjoyed rooting for him. That said, we weren't going to pay him.

Here's a look at his season, along with his replacements season. I think we made a smart move.

BEASE: 4 years 29 million
REC 67
YDS 778
AVG 11.6
TDS 6

COBB: 1 year 5 million
REC 55
YDS 828
AVG 15.1
TDS 3

My apologies if this has already been posted. Beasley was a different type of player for us and you could still argue we missed him at points last season. I predicted Cobb would top Beasleys best season in Dallas and he certainly came close. In the same tone of optimism I think CD tops both of them this year. It should be fun to watch. Dak has no choice but to blow up with the weapons he has been provided.

There is no thinly veiled Dak argument in this post. What's going on here?!

Yeah but there is a draft where you replace players for cheap.

Guys like Cobb, Beasley, Dak, Dalton, and all the other slightly above average players can be replaced for cheap.

No need to spend big money on guys like that. Let someone else like Buffalo do it.

You do not replace all players cheap. Especially a winning QB.

Not only that, we took Bradlee Anae with the compensation pick we got for Beasley - and we get another compensatory 5th for Cobb next year.

That's how dare I say strong organizations do business.

Losing Beasley did not matter. Overrated and now overpaid by Buffalo. lol

Beasley was an important part of the offense, but not the sort of player you allow you hold you over the table. Good for him that he got his money and had a good season, but Dallas was better off not shelling out anything long term. If they had, they would have likely passed on Lamb, so the effects would have been at least two-fold.

Cobb and Beasley are a different style of player.

Cobb is built for bigger plays and has more run after catch abilities so his numbers should look better than Beasleys.

Beasley is much better at working small spaces and getting open quickly compared to Cobb but as a down the field threat Beasley can't touch Cobb.

Cobb can play all 3 WR positions. Beasley is limited to a slot guy that won't do much down field.

I think Beasley is better at what he does then Cobb but after you factor in the money that we paid then Cobb was obviously a better choice.

It's similar to Dak and Andy Dalton... Is Dak better? Sure.. But when you compare contracts vs what both provide there isn't a big enough difference in play to validate one over the other.
You were doing fine until your last paragraph.

(In bold)^^^^: You definitely don't get IT.

I didn't say he wasn't important to the offense when we had him. I just said losing him did not matter. He was suitably replaced by Cobb.

Well does he get his big pay day and does that cost them the ability to make moves elsewhere?

Cousins has had a lot of chances to win a Superbowl and has nothing to show for it. He's just not a guy that moves the needle. He's a jaggy player. Another Alex Smith type.

Go find Pat Mahomes and pay him.

Don't pay these jaggy guys because you can replace them with some other jaggy player like Dalton, Tannehill, or whoever.

Cousins is not winning anything without a great team around him.. Well Tannehill could do the same thing.

It’s a reasonable thought experiment. Cousins was signed by Minnesota the same year, 3 yr 84 mil.

I’d have to ask a bears fan, but if I could’ve gotten Allen Robinson and Cousins and ignored most of their other signings that season, I think I would’ve been good.

Granted this is all hindsight since they believed in Trubisky

Beasley was also great at the short quick routes but that was the only card he could play. Moore's offense was a lot more versatile than Linehan's and we needed a guy like Cobb that could do a lot more from WR3.

And a couple of games into the CeeDee Lamb era, fans are going to completely forget about Cole Beasley.

I didn't rue the day Beasley left. He's a cute little player but Dallas had better guys to pay.

We already replaced our winning QB with Dalton if they so choose..

Dak is not 32 million a year better than Dalton.. He’s just not.

And what will be your posts when the $7 million QB goes 7-9.....oh, he is only 1 loss worse, but look at the money we saved....?
You are too caught up in the $$$ that is not yours.

I think we can go 9-7 easily with Dalton if not better. But he doesn't have that much left in the tank to dump Dak, long term. But if we go into the season with Dalton, if Dak doesn't sign his tag, I am ok with that. However don't expect a rookie QB if drafted to come in and be great. Most aren't.

But Dak wins, and with a better coaching staff and scheme. I still give Dak a win or 2 more than Dalton. And that is important for HFA. The hell with the cost. It is not my money, and it will not cripple the cap. They always work that out.

Great info. Thank you for posting. I love the way Dallas works the compensation system

My posts will be go draft a guy..

You “but Dak wins” guys are delusional.

Dallas has provided an optimal environment for a QB and you guys say it isn’t optimal enough.

I agree that it could always be better but for a guy that “wins” we sure don’t have a lot to show for it and I think a lot of QBs could’ve won here over this time period with the offensive talent we have had.

Dak is a product of the guys around him.. You’d have to be completely delusional to ignore that fact. He doesn’t do anything that isn’t replaceable because nothing about his play is special.

He’s a high end bus driver wanting elite QB money.. I’ll pass and go get another and keep the team strong.
