Guys:

Listened to "Goose" on ESPN radio, he made the following statements:

"You don't franchise safties and the Cowboys should have franchised their LT(Adams)". Said he was unimpressed with the Cowboys this off season.

He seemed unaware it would cost the Cowboys over $9M to franchise Adams and only $4M something to franchise the safety.

That's the problem I have with a lot of the so called "Football experts". They don't seem to know as much about an individual team as the guys on the Forum.

Goose is right on the money about this one. the cowboys have done nothing this offseason.sometimes the truth hurts. and getting mad about it wont change the facts.

The truth is that we have done exactly what we should have done ...... only silly fans want "big splashes" at the cost of our future.

Dallas is just trying to hold on to their beautiful Girlfriends and aren't giving the Rosie Odonnels the time of day.

Actually both you and Goose are 100% wrong. It was smart to tag Hamlin at a low number(we can re-do his deal anytime and mediocre FSs are getting much more in FA) and we reduced Flozell from at least a $7.5M(his cap hit last year) to around $3.5M this year. So we got Zach Thomas, Ken Hamlin and Flozell for the same amount it would have cost to tag Flozell by himself.

This offseason has not been that bad. Every decent guy that got signed got a ridiculous amount of money , more than I would want Dallas to spend for them. I like the approach this year . Lets just see what happens in the Draft.

I've noticed Goose is always more critical of the Cowboys more than any other team in football.
But that is the norm for the local media in Dallas.
For some odd reason bashing the Cowboys must sell papers or increase ratings in the radio market in Dallas/Ft. Worth.
After signing Flozell I would love for Gosselin to explain to me what the Cowboys could and should have done.
Fact is we have 2 first round picks. and increased our position in the late rounds with the trading of Ferguson.
I guess Gosselin thinks we should have held on to Julius and the great Jacques Reeves!

my only complaint is that we didn't get more for Ferguson, I was hoping for at least a 5th.....

but at least we got something....the top pick in the 6th round this year and a 6th next year.....so my complaint is minimal.

I am not upset that Thomas was our only FA signing. I would have hoped for someone in the secondary, but the prices were outrageous for what you get in return.

I would like to trade Ayodele for possibly a 4th. I know he won't be happy to sit behind Thomas and James. I would rather accomadate him with a trade, than have his sour grapes in the lockerroom.

Then, if we can, trade #28 in the draft for an upper third in the 2nd and 3rd round. It would give us 10 draft picks....DB (3), RB (2), LB (1), WR (1), OL (1), DL (1), QB (1)

1
2 (#28)
2
3 (#28)
3
4 (Ayodele)
4
5
6 (Miami)
7

The Cowboys would have done even less had they franchised Flo for 9 mil and then lost Hamlin in FA.

Did you see what lesser safeties than Hamlin got in FA???

Goose is just wrong here.

When you have 13 Pro Bowlers making splashes in FA is not exactly the order of the day. And those are the facts.

what were we supposed to do in this FA?...We're limited in cap space so people need to settle down.

Best move would be Pac man Jons right now..Get Him and we'll be in great shape.

Draft a RB and a potential WR and CB...

We did fine in my opinion.

true...but they are also staying away from the "P. Hiltons" of the world....ie those eye candy types, and even maybe good performers.....

but..........very high maintainence......

We need a nickel CB, a #2/#3 WR, back-ups at NT, S and RB. Not exactly the type of positions that need to be filled during the first week of FA with crazy money being thrown around. That is what the draft is for and when some vets see that the FA market for them is dried up, they will sign cheap deals.

Goose couldn't be more wrong about this. Flo would have cost a lot more to franchise and we probably would have lost Hamlin. I can't see how Goose could make this statement, especially after we have already re-signed Flo and still have the rights to Hamlin. It looks to me like it turned out pretty good.

How can you say the Cowboys have done nothing this offseason? Did you miss the fact that we re-signed a 4 time pro bowl left tackle that is responsible for your 67 million dollar franchise quarterback's blindside.

Did you miss the fact that we franchised a pro bowl safety (Hamlin) that insures we have him next year, while we work out a long term extension?

We also tendered another pro bowl player with a 1st and 3rd round tender that assures us that we can keep MB3 while we work out a long term extension with him also.

Chris Canty was also tendered with a 1st round tender that keeps him in Dallas.

On top of all of the above, we signed a 7 time pro bowler in Zach Thomas to a multi year deal. I know he is coming back from an injury, but if he doesn't work out, it going to be a low cost 1 year deal.

The facts are, we haven't lost any of our pro bowlers and have not overpaid for over hyped players on the FA market. Jerry could be grossly overpaying players like the Raiders are doing this year and like the Commanders usually do. (If he were to do this, it would make it harder to re-sign Newman and Ware in the coming years, IMO.) But he is doing exactly what he should be doing. He's waiting for the FA market to settle and pick up a good player, like Hamlin last year, at a bargain price.

It looks like a pretty good offseason to me. :D

He's also the same guy who gushes over the E-girls every year.

BTW-without Hamlin, our secondary would be shot to ****.

our off-season is just fine despite the IGS demaning 7 top players now.

You're so wrong!!! We did plenty this offseason in just just signing our own guys. We're a 13 game win team, we didn't need to sign aother teams players we had to sign our own and we did that... That's the truth and no it doesn't hurt, it actually feels damn good....

Goose condemns himself with his writings and that is why he is nothing more than a beat writer. Am glad I am a fan of the Cowboys and not the Dallas Morning News. Go Cowboys
