You may hate Goose and he may be terrible. but the guy is right on the money about this. for all who are posting here saying we should just stand pat because we won 13 games. i want to see you back here next year when we lose in the playoffs again. this team still has many needs. dont fool yourself people.
I agree we have needs...but at least left tackle isn't one of them.
Newsflash...Good left tackles do not grow on trees.
That's the simple truth.

Keep in mind when you answer that we have under $4 mill currently, little something called a salary cap that most in the media are clueless about. Kinda like when you hear trade Roy and Carpenter, most fail to realize that Roy is $7 mill cap hit and Carp is $4.5 cap hit. Analyst dont think about those things.

Sad to say knowing the importance of the cap ramifications is almost as important as knowing the talent of the players. I prefer continuity with quality players instead of turnover for the sake of turnover. The Cowboys are lucky to have a cap manager with the smarts that Stephen Jones has. Goose is not only stupid but a** backwards as Hostile points out. Is cowboyrock eduncan22's cousin?

What player and contract would you have preferred that Dallas would have done? Keep in mind they might have had to beat that contract and that might have meant losing Adams and or Barber and or Hamlin. No player that has signed so far was a good deal for Dallas. Adams signed a reasonable deal for an important position and Hamlin had to be franchised because safeties are not paid as much and Dallas could not have went into the season with two holes at safety.

I am usually very critical of Jones but I think they have done everthing right after signing Crayton and waiting too long to sign Romo.

Stephen Jones is great working the cap, how we were able to keep all of our own players when other teams are losing starters right and left is outstanding work by Stephen.

We lost JuJo (backup), Reeves (backup), and traded Fergy (backup). We may lose Nate Jones (backup), Ketih Davis (backup), and Tyson Thompson (backup).

We have all 22 starters from the playoff game returning, including 13 probowlers, we added a 7-time probowl LB in Zach Thomas, and we are the only team in the NFL with a pair of first round picks.

Anybody who thinks this is a bad offseason so far is either delusional or ********.;)

what do people expect us to do in free agency, where the market sets player salaries far above what they are actually worth, w/ approximately 3.5 mil to play w/?

There's no seeming to know about it. There are very few journalists who really love the team enough to put the time into it to know these types of ins and outs. They may know the roster, they may read a story and think they can do it better than the other author, but by and large they are not plugged into the team.

you don't have to be a die-hard fan of a team to know that the franchise tag for Olinemen is huge

Goose needs to focus solely on the draft, because he's horrible outside of it when noone is passing him information

Goose is good at calling clubs and finding out who they are intereseted in and doing research about prospects and following the going ons leading up to the draft.

He sucks at everything else adn to care what he says about anything other than the draft is laughable. He ttries so hard its pathetic to never say anything good about the Cowboys lest he seem a homer.

Goose does seem overtly harsh when discussing Cowboy issues. I've said this before but he has a "national" image to protect and cannot be seen as a Cowboy "homer" among his peers.

Note that I didn't say you did. It doesn't change my answer one iota. To be as in tune as most dedicated fans are you need to be obsessed with the ins and outs of the running of the team. Any team. Journalists generally are not.

What would be going above and beyond the call of duty for them Hos. We both know that isn't going to happen. Not in todays media.

Which is why football fans are falling in love with the bloggers more than the media. The bloggers are as dialed in as we are.

Remember Dale's TC reports where he described plays? For years I mentioned that the DFW writers as the best threads we had. I was assured that most fans would not want that kind of info. They think we want to hear paparazzi stories about Tony and Jess.

Whether or not you like Tim McMahon's writing style there is not a doubt in my mind that his blog of the plays at this year's TC was the best info we got all year and I told him so.

It only took one paper 4 years to do what he did. I told Tom Orsborn of the SAEX in person at Chad Peter's wedding how much fans love that kind of info.

I've noticed Goose is always more critical of the Cowboys more than any other team in football.
But that is the norm for the local media in Dallas.
For some odd reason bashing the Cowboys must sell papers or increase ratings in the radio market in Dallas/Ft. Worth.
After signing Flozell I would love for Gosselin to explain to me what the Cowboys could and should have done.
Fact is we have 2 first round picks. and increased our position in the late rounds with the trading of Ferguson.
I guess Gosselin thinks we should have held on to Julius and the great Jacques Reeves!

I don't pay attention anymore to them.

They try to go overboard sometimes with what they say as being against the Cowboys because I think they don't want anybody to claim they are homers for the club.

So they put out this anteceptic comment system on the team constantly so as to appear apart from that perception.

Randy Galloway does the same thing.

It's just the nature of the beast.

To get any respect from your fellow media buds, you have to appear investigative and above being perceived as being anything less than being totally objective and non-plus.

I've spent lot's of time in media tents and shot the breeze with reporters and believe me, they are not that interesting for the most part. They are extremely opinonated and agenda driven.

They are not this well-rounded fountain of information and or keepers of original thought for the most part.

They sit around a great deal and swap stories about their greatest news story or drop hints about some story that hasn't been published yet but will be soon..as soon as they get a collaborative source or somebody will pay enough for it.

Once they gather enough material from the press room or tent or from their meetings at the bar with their collegues, they run out and jump on their laptops to meet their deadlines and start the whole cycle again the next day.

They really just rehash alot of things and take reports from other writers and re-invent new what-if twists and include them in their column or blogs and refer to 'sources' as verification there is some validity to it.

Believe me..I know.

That's funny .. from what I recall, the Cowboys signed a 2007 all-pro left tackle, a 2007 all-pro free safety, a former all-pro linebacker and a very reliable long snapper with a perfect snap history over the last several years.

That's a lot of great signings in my opinon.

I would not be surprised to find out that the largest percentage of people on this forum only read this forum. I will not waste my time reading anywhere else. There are probably about 2 dozen posters here who are truly knowledgable and objective enough to do the job of the media. I guess I am a snob because I prefer to get my information here. Now who do you suppose those 2 dozen posters are?

You mean the stories we rip apart and find fault with? ;)

Actually I was referring to the posters who understand the cap and its ramifications, have an eye for talent, understand the different layers of the game and can recognize the 30 yard slant.

I'm one of them. I search other sites but only to find info for here. I agree, there are posters here that I pay far more attention to than the media. In my opinion for entertainment as well as information, nothing compares to this site when it comes to the Cowboys.

Out of curiosity why are there so many posters here that cannot grasp that concept and argue ad nauseum ridiculous points. This may actually be my favorite site overall for the value it has and the info it conveys.
