Draft reports for LT actually list his functional strength as a strength, Shelton not so much as you stated.I think Overton showed a lot more playing snaps inside than he does on the outside, where he gets manhandled by OTs and not being asked to run the arc.
I think in a lot of ways he’s like Shelton in that he needs to work on his functional playing strength in general. Bama probably has a weight room comparable to any NFL team but my suspicions are he probably wasn’t hitting it like he should have been.
Overton (Alabama EDGE/DL, previously Texas A&M; selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 4th round, 137th overall) is described across multiple reports as a powerful, physical, dense player with strong hands, a legitimate bull rush, and the ability to set a firm edge and anchor against the run. He is frequently praised for play strength, functional power at the point of attack, upper-body strength to shed blocks, and leverage/anchor that lets him hold the line of scrimmage and walk blockers back.
