A lot of it is rising to the opportunity and Scoon has been playing solid ball. Other than Bennett though I can't think of other recent tight ends that did better with their new teams vs Dallas.
We brought back Witten out of retirement when we had Schultz.

Fasano, Bennett, Shultz...now Schoon maybe. Shoutout to Blake Jarwin.

Seems like tight ends have always been a major feature of our offense throughout the years.

It took Shultz a couple of seasons to become what he is. Schoon is coming along. Definitely a good thing to see.

IDK, Ferguson is a monster. I'd rather let Schoon improve, then trade him.
You wont get a ton of pushback from me on that idea, but in an attempt to be thinking like the Cowboys would... Schoon is cheap for another two years while Ferg needs to get paid possibly this offseason if you don't want other bidders to enter the equation. Unless the gap is pretty significant it seems like the Cowboys have no problems letting a better talent walk to push off paying a player at a non premium position.

The most likely scenario though is that they hang onto both players though their contracts, let both walk for comp picks, and you probably see another developmental TE enter the pipeline this offseason.

How do you expect them to play at a higher level when all they are asked to do is block as a TE2?

The only time they get to show what they got is if and when TE1 gets hurt.
I'm not sure what that has to do with what I said. I agree with the sentiment, and don't understand their fascination with a deep TE room when they don't utilize them. My point was that those numbers aren't particularly impressive, and the sample size is nothing.

Then change the playbook and game plan. as it sucks anyway. Adapt to the skills of the players. Use their strengths.
Instead of making the players try to change.
we already know is is almost 20 years outdated.

That is what they said they would do, but I guess they didn’t.

As I said some fans do not understand as much as they think they do.
soooo in other words wasted pick

No. Remains to be seen.
to this point, drafted where he was, not used as planned it was a wasted pick. may work out in the future, sure. as of now though, bad move. and you saying the guy or fans in general don't understand doesn't really track here. especially considering you offered up the exact reason yourself

Can a guy not get his flowers can we not comment a guy is not a complete bust and a waste of a second round pick because he's not if you get these players rolling now from that draft they say is a terrible draft you got Overshown ,you got schoon coming around a little bit, mazi getting better.. brooks still here I mean I get it most of them may be role players but if you guys progressing and you're right they're not utilizing them correctly so how do you really judge them that's how you judge them they're doing what they can when they're called upon that is all on Mike McCarthy and most of our problems around here has been his misuse of our players he doesn't know how to rotate them situation of football is using the wrong ones I mean we can go to terp and hunter I mean all them are getting the shaft I mean rico's though Can you imagine if Rico from the beginning I don't know week 5 or 6 after the Pittsburgh game would have been handed the ball 20 to 25 * a game he probably have 4-100 yard games right now and wouldn't be talking about how terrible our running back room is that would be McCarthy...

So let's give the player a break and the fan base for noticing a guy is doing better but by the way even as a rookie he didn't do much but when he was throwing the ball in traffic he caught it so he's got pretty good hands he may not get a lot of separation but when they throw a ball to him he catches it that's a good thing for a tight end a possession receiver just moves the chains when needed and blocks pretty well we're talking about his second year and not being used a lot but every time I see him throwing the ball in traffic he catches it he's made some tough catches that's important I mean that's the most important part of a wide receiver tight end is when the ball is thrown to you and it's catchable you catch it see you lamb dropped 3 balls last week and I don't wanna hear about his injury they were softballs they were literally look underhanded it hit him square in the hands two hands the man was trying to play hero ball you gotta catch the football at least screws catching the football I watched turp and I also watched tolbert drop some balls but again they later made-up for it but when I seen scoon I don't see him dropping too many passes he seems to catch it if it's there he's got big mitts and that's a good thing...

I realize this is all you have but these novels are so very boring and did no one ever teach you proper sentence structure?

As a rookie Schoon literally led the league in drop percentage for all TEs with at least 100 routes ran. He's been pretty good the last few weeks, especially in terms of hanging onto the football, but he certainly didn't come into the year with the reputation of being sure handed. He also only has 1 catch all year against man coverage. He is having all his success finding open zones. Nothing wrong with that, but if he is going to force himself into seeing the field more he has to find a way to win some of those 1v1 matchups. This is the same issue he had his rookie year where he had just 1 catch against man coverage. That will be the thing to watch out of Schoon moving forward. He is seeing the most success when he gets zone coverage typically when lined up in the slot, and its mostly coming from those underneath routes. He needs to find a way to be more effective as a threat as an inline TE, especially vertically every now and then.

I have been patient and rooting for Schoonmaker since he was drafted. The Cowboys like to focus on 1 TE while turning TEs they drafted into invisible men. Now that he has a chance to get some targets he looks okay. But he reminds me of David LaFleur. No much run after catch potential, at least nothing I have seen so far.
Well, Witten lasted longer than anyone thought. We drafted Escobar and Martellus Bennet to replace him. Nobody was going to succeed in his shadow. Just another example of poor planning and execution by a rudderless organization.

Good to see him be productive. And a reminder why you do not need to overpay a good TE. I liked Schultz, I like Fergy, and I like seeing Schoon be productive but absolutely no reason to hand out big contracts to any of them.
