Sure. But if he has another injury filled season, it raises serious questions about whether you can count on him - and I don't think you pay a guy 9 mill a year if you don't think he'll play every game

but injuries are a tricky thing.... unless it involves the knees.

For a guy like Newman, I think they will wait it out to the very last minute before they would drop him even with his contract and I don't think it is even close yet.

Excuse me but what in the hell does Marion Barber have to prove to anyone?

He has to prove he is worth the big contract.

If we wanted 3.7 YPC we could have just kept Julius Jones.

And before you bust out the "oh he was injured line" keep this in mind. Before he got hurt, he was averaging only 3.9 YPC.

The guy is a beast. Our offense is kinda finesse at times and you put him in our backfield and he gives us a toughness.

We missed Barber last year when he was hurt.

When he was healthy we were tough to beat.

Without even looking I bet our record with MB3 is a lot better than without him.

I don't think some of you realise just how important he is.

I realize how important he is, and I think we could have a real weapon here with three top shelf RBs on this team. The question is and will be this year is how well Garrett uses them.

I believe we will need to use all three more in the passing game than they have in the past, and that is what will help us forget about that TO guy. Remember Garrett comes from the Norv Turner days when we used Emmitt and Moose Johnston in the passing game quite a bit and it obviously very effective. You cannot blitz the QB nor doubleteam the WRs so much if you have to watch for a guy or guys running over the middle. Try to blitz your LBs or double team WRs with your safeties, and you will find it being a vacant spot.

Add to that our 1-2 punch at TE. The potential there is frightening. It is up to our coaching staff to put it together.

I know that was a little off subject of what we are talking about, but if this does not work out and it turns out we lose one, then I would believe it to be MBII with his contract to go. That is assuming T Choice and Felix play as expected.

I'd like to see Barber run more North-South less East-West.. He's too slow to turn that corner.. Safe to say when Choice's or Felix's contract is up Barber won't be in Dallas..

I agree with everyone except Newman. Gurode might be safe too, unless someone emerges from camp with solid center skills...and it appears we've been heavily auditioning that spot.

I don't see Choice as a better trade option than Barber, either. Barber needs to stay healthy and get back to his 2007 form... whether that means limited snaps and a different role or not.

Certainly the ice is thinnest under Hamlin given the signing of Sensabaugh, the drafting of M.Hamlin & D. Smith, and various other DB options already on the roster. Nothing super-exciting but probably enough talent to cut K-Ham if he's unproductive.

Flo - Well, everyone gets frustrated with his penalties but I don't see anyone on the roster ready to take the guys spot either. Unless Brewster & Free really impress this year (and I'm not optimistic about that) I think OT must be a priority next offseason. Flo's age is just too risky.

Barber - I think last year probably confirmed the guy is not really a feature back. He can be a valuable role player though and for that reason he likely stays unless he dramatically breaksdown which isn't likely at this age. Did we overpay? Yes. Thems the breaks. His is an overpayment we can likely live with given how cheap Felix & Choice currently are.

Newman - The premise is that he can't stay healthy. Actually, I don't think the team feels that way. I think they feel he had some bad luck but is overall plenty to remain our LCB. Is his contract painful? Perhaps. But I think alot would have to happen to put Newman's spot in jeopardy. I think he's easily here another 2-3 years. We'll see how he ages.

Those 2 better prove they can put the ball across the goal line and become very good all around before Barber can be let go.

And im not talking about scoring from 30 yards out. Its the tough scores inside the 10 that worry me with Felix and Tashard.

Barber is a Touchdown machine. Its never good losing someone like that.

MBIII only had 08 - 7 TDS - 07 - 10 TDS

yea a TD machine

Choice to me is a better back than MBIII - had 1300+ yards and 10+ td as a senior
Felix about the same only a junior

those 2 guys are tough runners

Choice is a really nice back and all but MB3 is way more feared than Tashard is.

7 TD's with the amount of PT Barber got was pretty good too.

Tashard just wasnt impressive in goal line opportunities last year.

And don't make a mistake about it. MB3 is our best all around back.

He's one of the few who impose their will.

I see several guys on this team at a serious crossroads. These guys have big contracts that are going to get them cut if they don't pick it up. Instead of using cap space to bring in hot UFAs, we will likely end up using it to absorb accelerated bonus money for cutting some or more of these player

1. Marion Barber - If he has a 2009 like 2008, he is gone. Can't justify mega mill a year for such limited production.

2. Terence Newman - If he fails to remain healthy again this year, his career is likely over here.

3. Flozell Adams - No heir apparent here but if he continues his middle of the pack play, we'll focus on LT in the draft.

4. Ken Hamlin - He'd better start playing like every year is a contract year... because pretty much it is from here on out.
I have a feeling, we will be thinking LT in the draft regardless of how Flo play's. He's getting old...

While I don't necessarily disagee with the statement he actually had 12 touchdowns in '07 and 9 in '08. If you're gonna use that to say he's not a "touchdown machine" at least look up total TD and not just rushing TDs since he's been our 3rd ('07) and 4th ('08) leading receiver with 96 receptions in those two years as well (another aspect people seem to overlook in his game). However, your point is well taken.

Barber isn't going anywhere after this year. Newman isn't going any where after this year. I doubt Newman will play out his contract though. He's going to make 12 million when he's 34 years old and he will be long done before that. He's only got this year and next year to play probowl calibur football. We have Jenkins and Scandrick for the future anyway.

I thought the Flo contract last year was severely ********. I thought it was a desperation move and clearly a bad choice. We're stuck with taking a big cap hit for that big bafoon. This is his last year. It has to be! We need a young LT to groom. I really hope we take one in the first round next year but we suck at drafting lineman...

when was the last bad shotgun snap for gurode?

because I Don't remember a single one last season.

and the flozell talk is pretty premature, he was hurt last season, and good to great LTs are hard to find.

you don't replace him just to replace him with someone younger but less skilled.

If Newman can't stay on the field - for example if he misses another 6 games and isn't 100% for several other games - like last year -- then we can either cross our fingers, pay him 9 mill for 2010 and hope he stays healthy OR move on.

If Barber gives us another 3.7 YPC season then he's clearly not the guy we want to be paying like a top flight starter.

I want both to turn it around. But if neither do then don't be surprised when they become ex-Cowboys.

Every single shotgun snap stinks. They are too slow to arrive. He makes the OL hold their blocks longer because of it.

Drink less during the game. I found that helps you remember what happened.

Replacing Flo isn't premature. Yes, he was hurt last year. Old players get hurt and take a long time to heal.

Barber - dallas will only trade him they will NOT release him. He is still young and was the heart and soul of offense when its run properly. Hasnt show to be injury prone.

Newmann - I am with alot of people on him now and he is absolutely fragile and is over 30 (bad combination). If Jenkins/Scandrick/Ball can elevate their game...do not be suprised to see Dallas move Newman....his cap numbers and injury status has handicapped Dallas the past few years.

Adams - Dallas has tried in vein to find his replacement but has been unsuccessful. I think your looking at a 1st round pick next year at LT who will need to start. Adams is a goner if he has another mediocre season.

Hamlin - I really think Hamlin bounces back this year. Finally having a legit safety next to him will make the difference.
